William Charles "Bill" Schwanbeck, of Abington, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 22, 2026. He was 73 years old. Born on July 30, 1952, in Abington, Bill was the beloved son of the late Charles John Schwanbeck and the late Bessie Mae Schwanbeck (née Hodgson). Raised in Roslyn, he attended Abington High School.
Bill was the devoted husband of Denise Renee Schwanbeck, with whom he shared 49 wonderful years of marriage. Their love story began at the home of Denise's sister Barbara and her husband Joe, where they first met. Together they built a life centered on love, family, and countless cherished memories.
He was the proud and loving father of Michael William Schwanbeck and his wife, Erika, and David Charles Schwanbeck and his wife, Jackie. Bill's greatest joy in life was being "Poppy" to his cherished grandchildren: Morgan Errington, Blake Beaudet, Ella Schwanbeck, Michael Schwanbeck, Amber Wilbur, David Schwanbeck, and Kacee Schwanbeck. He treasured every moment spent with them and took immense pride in watching them grow.
Bill is also survived by his loving sister, Carol Smith and her husband, Tom; his brother, Skip Schwanbeck and his wife, Anne; Sister in law of Martha Serogo her late husband Raymond Serogo, along with many beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his sisters, Jane Gershman and Nancy Naughton; his sisters-in-law, Barbara Fanelli and her husband, Joe, and Karen Fanelli and her husband, Steven; and his brother in law Jimmy.
A hardworking man throughout his life, Bill began his career as a truck driver for Pileggi and Sons, where his CB radio handle, "Double Trouble," was a tribute to his twin boys. He later spent many years as a heavy equipment operator with Stauffer and Sons in Willow Grove. Never one to shy away from hard work, Bill also owned and operated Sumtyme Trucking, hauling dirt to New Jersey and returning with loads of sand and salt to Pennsylvania.
Outside of work, Bill embraced life with enthusiasm. He loved riding his Harley-Davidson well into his seventies and enjoyed making trips to Maple Grove Raceway, where he could experience the excitement of drag racing. He and Denise also shared many unforgettable vacations to Cancun, creating treasured memories together over the years.
Bill will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his strong work ethic, and his adventurous spirit.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his visitation August 19, 2026 at 10:00 AM and his memorial service at 11:00 AM at Carmel Presbyterian Church 100 Edgehill Road, Glenside, PA 19038. Graveside service will follow at Carmel Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 100 Edgehill Road, Glenside, PA 19038.
Religious services will be conducted by Rev. John Diller from Carmel Presbyterian Church.
