Rev. Robert McGrath of Lancaster, Pennsylvania died Thursday, September 25, 2025 at Trillium Place. He was 94 years old. Robert was born August 27, 1931 in Brooklyn, New York, son of the late John M. McGrath and the late Elfrieda McGrath (nee - Munsen). He is the beloved husband of the late Florence A. McGrath (nee - Reis); father of the late Roy McGrath and his wife Eleanore and Barbara McGrath; grandfather of Russell, Heather, Roy, Crystal, Angie, and Tyler; survived many great grandchildren; cousin of Deborah, Ruth, Esther, Elizabeth, Arthur, Carol, and Judy.
The following story was composed by Pastor McGrath:
“Rev. and Mrs. Robert McGrath were both born and brought up in Brooklyn, New York. They came to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior and were baptized at the Baptist Temple in Brooklyn. Rev. McGrath graduated from high school and worked for about 15 years in the printing industry in New York City, and was manager of a printing plant.
Following what he and his wife believed to be God’s leading, Rev, McGrath entered Philadelphia College of Bible in January, 1962 to prepare for the Lord’s service. He completed the four year program in three and one-half years, graduating in June, 1965. The following September, Rev. McGrath entered Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary and graduated from there in June, 1968 in the Honors Program with a Master of Divinity degree.
During his seminary days, Rev McGrath was the pastor of the Community Baptist Church in Milmay, New Jersey, where he remained until graduation from the seminary. He was ordained to the gospel ministry by the milmay Church the the West New Jersey Baptist Association. Rev. McGrath was called to the Cohansey Baptist Church in 1968. While at Cohansey Baptist Church, he served as a moderator of the Association, President of the Bridgeton Ministerium, Vice-President of the Minister’s Council of the American Baptist Churches of New Jersey, and Mission Associate for New Jersey. In 1976 he was called to the West Baptist Church of Oswego, New York. Following his time in Oswego Rev. McGrath was called to Wyoming Avenue Baptist Church in Philadelphia, PA.”
Relatives and friends were invited to his Viewing on Tuesday, October 14, 2025 from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. and Funeral Service at 11:00 A.M. at Westgate Baptist Church, 2235 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601. His Graveside Service followed at Lawnview Cemetery, 500 Huntingdon Pike, Rockledge, PA 19046.
Religious services were conducted by Rev. Robert Zimmerman and Rev. Leonard Lewis of Westgate Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Woodcrest Villa, 2001 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601.
