Lena Fuchs of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania died Tuesday, May 2, 2006 at Philadelphia Protestant Home. She was 100 years old. Lena was born November 8, 1905, the daughter of the late Stephen Purr and the late Anna Purr (nee - Hartusch).
She is the beloved wife of the late Joseph Fuchs. Mother of Joseph Fox and his wife Irene. Grandmother of Karen Bell, Stephen Fox and Lauren Hascek. Great grandmother of Christian Fox, Matthew Hascek and Alexandra Hascek.
Lena was born and raised in Parabote, a German community in the Austro-Hungarian Empire. She emigrated to the United States in 1921 and lived for many years at 3rd Street and Lindley Avenue in the Olney section of Philadelphia. At the age of 99 she moved from her home in Olney into the Philadelphia Protestant Home. During her working career she was a cleaning woman for the School District of Philadelphia at the Birney School at 9th St. and Lindley Avenue. She also worked as a cook for 34 years at the Oak Lane Senior Citizens Center.
Relatives and friends were invited to her viewing Monday, May 8, 2006, from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. at the chapel of the Philadelphia Protestant Home, 6500 Tabor Road in Philadelphia, where her funeral service was conducted at 11:00 A.M. Her interment at Hillside Cemetery, 2156 Susquehanna Road in Roslyn, Pa. followed the funeral service.
