The following obituary was composed by Michael’s family:
Michael Arthur D’Alessandro died at his home in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on April 10, 2024 at 72 years of age. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at Nazareth Hospital on September 4, 1951 to Charles S. D’Alessandro and Merle (VanDyke) D’Alessandro. Mike was the brother of Charles R. D’Alessandro (deceased), Louise D’Alessandro, Merle (D’Alessandro) Wolff. He is survived by his beloved nieces and nephews, Rory and Casey O’Donnell, Caran Baxter (Thomas Baxter), Sara Kratowicz (Stephen Kratowicz, deceased), Katharine Odland (Thor Magnus Odland), and Daniel Wolff. He was a beloved great-uncle to Brendan, Shane and Liam Baxter, Hannah, Norah, John Magnus and Aksel Odland and Jane and Peter Kratowicz.
Having attended Rhawnhurst and Farrell Elementary schools, Wilson Junior High School and Northeast High School in Philadelphia, he then graduated cum laude from Kent State University in Ohio in 1973. He attended Temple University Law School earning a Juris Doctor degree in 1977. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association.
Mike began his career working for White and Williams Law Firm in Philadelphia. After two years, he decided to start his own practice, helping individuals up against large corporate interests. He had many beloved assistants, too numerous to mention, who became like family to him, during his many-decades career. He fed lunch everyday to his staff and whomever came to visit.
Mike loved photography and collecting old cameras taking many photos of green spaces, events and buildings in center city Philadelphia. He was an amateur astronomer and built telescopes for family members and himself. In his spare time, he loved gazing at the heavens. An avid sports fan, he regularly took family and friends to Eagles and Phillies games. He was a consummate reader of many genres, daily newspapers included. He loved learning all history, especially the American Civil War, the Roman Empire and the history of world and national currencies.
ALWAYS available in any way to help, he gave freely of his time and expertise to family, friends, and neighbors. He was an extremely thoughtful, kind and conscientious brother, uncle and friend who never forgot birthdays, special anniversaries and holidays. He generously donated to his nieces and nephews fundraisers. He loved his family and friends and was especially proud of his nieces and nephews. We couldn’t have asked for a better brother, uncle, friend. We are devastated to lose him. He will always live on in our hearts. We love and miss you Mike.
Relatives and friends were invited to his visitation on Friday, April 19, 2024 from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. and funeral service at 11:00 A.M. at Wetzel and Son Funeral Home, 419 Huntingdon Pike, Rockledge, PA 19046.
