Gladys Yetter of Cheltenham, Pennsylvania died Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at Jeanes Hospital. She was 91 years old.

Born Gladys Romaine Woodcock in Waterbury, Pennsylvania on February 15, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Harry Woodcock and Ella (Brown) Woodcock, and the wife of the late Frederick Jacob Yetter.

Gladys is also the mother of Fred Yetter and his wife Clare of Elkins Park; Anne Averyt of Burlington, VT; Karen Yetter of Glendale Heights,IL; Jane Smith and her husband Rick of Gainesville, FL, and Linda Auchinleck and her husband Joe of Fox Chase. She is also the proud and loving grandmother of seven: Kevin and Alan Averyt, Keith Yetter, Erin Pak, Lauren, Scott and Mark Smith.

Gladys grew up in central PA and graduated from Altoona High School in 1935. She attended Asbury College in Asbury, Kentucky, and graduated from Lock Haven (PA) State Teachers College in 1939. After graduation, Gladys returned home to Lakemont to become a school teacher. During the Second World War, she moved briefly to Washington, DC. and was married to Frederick Yetter of Rockledge on February 12, 1944.

Following the birth of her two oldest children in Altoona, the family moved into their home at 410 Ryers Avenue in Cheltenham. Gladys lived in the home she loved so much for more than 60 years until her death.

Gladys was a longtime member of Bethany Baptist Church. She loved to read and to travel, especially to visit her children and grandchildren. She was also an avid fan of the Penn State football team.

Relatives and friends were invited to her viewing, Monday, June 2, 2008 from 9:30 to 10:30 A.M. and her funeral service at 10:30 A.M. at Bethany Baptist Church, 460 Rhawn Street, Philadelphia, PA 19111. A cemetery service at Lawnview Cemetery, 500 Huntingdon Pike, Rockledge, PA 19046 followed. Her pastor at Bethany Baptist, Rev. Dr. Robert J. Figge Jr., conducted the service.
