Bernhard A. Joerger Sr. of Rockledge, Pennsylvania died Saturday, December 5, 2009 at his residence. He was 72 years old. Bernhard was born August 28, 1937, the son of the late Albert Joerger and the late Lena Joerger (nee - Lieb).

He is the husband of Gertrude K. Joerger (nee - Jansen). Father of Bernhard A. Joerger, Jr. and his wife Nancy, Joseph Joerger and his wife Joyce and Donna Rothmund and her husband Joe. Grandfather of Bernhard A. Joerger, III, Courtney Joerger and Jade Joerger. Great grandfather of Jordan Joerger. Brother of Marie Heiser, Gertrude Mastrosante, Lena Felderhoff, Alberta Brecht, Rita Brown, Elizabeth Brecht, William Joerger and the late Leo Joerger.

Bernhard was born and raised in Philadelphia. He married Gertrude K. Jansen and together they made their home in Rockledge. Bernhard served his country in the United States Army Reserves, with active duty at Ft. Knox Armory Center in Kentucky. During his working career, Bernhard was employed as a machinist by Standard Press Steel Company for 43 years. He retired in January 2007. Bernhard was active in the Rockledge community. He served on Borough Council from 1975-1977 and was Mayor of Rockledge from 1977 to 1980. Bernhard also served on the 4th of July Committee for 6 years.

Relatives and friends were invited to a viewing on Wednesday, December 9, 2009 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Wetzel and Son Funeral Home, 419 Huntingdon Pike, Rockledge, PA 19046. Relatives and friends were also invited to a Funeral Mass on Thursday at 10:00 A.M. at St. Cecilia Church, 535 Rhawn Street, Philadelphia, PA 19111. Burial was private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Jeanes Hospital, 7600 Central Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19111.
