Elizabeth "Betty" Pankowitz of Bensalem, Pennsylvania died Sunday, September 24, 2017 at Rivers Edge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was 99 years old. Betty was born March 31, 1918, the daughter of the late Alexander Sanislo and the late Mary Sanislo (nee - Toth). She is the beloved wife of the late Harry Pankowitz, mother of Ronald and Robert Pankowitz, grandmother of Ronald, Jr., Keith, Derek and Jeremiah Pankowitz, and Melissa Baker; sister of Georgie, Ethel, and Anne. She is also survived by her six great grandchildren.

Betty was born, raised, and educated in Philadelphia growing up in Assumption Parish at 8th and Spring Garden Streets in the city. The family also lived at 20th and Ontario Streets for many years. Betty had many jobs during her working career, including in a neck tie factory, as a messenger girl for Lit Brothers Department Store and packaging boxes for Whitman Chocolates, first at their 4th and Race Streets location in Philadelphia and later at their facility on Roosevelt Boulevard in the far northeast section of the city. She married Harry Pankowitz in 1941 and had lived for over 50 years at 6910 Rising Sun Avenue in the Lawndale section of Philadelphia where she was a member of Presentation B.V.M. Parish, until moving to Bensalem in 2002.

Relatives and friends were invited to her viewing on Friday, September 29, 2017 from 9:30 A.M. and to her funeral service at 10:30 A.M. at Wetzel and Son Funeral Home, 419 Huntingdon Pike, Rockledge, PA 19046. A graveside service followed at Sunset Memorial Park, 333 West County Line Road, Feasterville, PA 19053.

Religious services were conducted by Fr. Skip Miller.
