Werner A. Drechsel of Holland, Pennsylvania died Sunday, January 27, 2013 at Chandler Hall. He was 90 years old. Werner was born October 3, 1922 in Thalheim, Germany, son of the late Alfred P. Drechsel and the late Elsa Drechsel (nee - Hofmann).

He is the beloved husband of the late Rita Drechsel (nee - Seeback), and longtime companion of Thelma Sware; father of Deborah Drechsel Bottomlee and her husband Dale, Randolph Drechsel and his wife Lisa Wright Drechsel, Diane Weldon, Richard Sware and his wife Jeanie, and Ruth Sware; grandfather of Tiffany Drechsel Perkins and her husband Ryan, Sean Weldon, Zach Drechsel, Mark Pitt and Matthew Sware; great grandfather of Sloane Perkins; brother of Loretta Durr and her husband Ron, and the late Elsie and her late husband Rudy.

Werner was born in the town of Thalheim, in Saxony, Germany. His parents moved to the United States in 1925, when he was three years old. Werner was raised and educated in Philadelphia and was inducted into the United States Army in December of 1942. He served in Company C with the 819th Tank Destroyer Battalion in the central Pacific theater during World War II and was honorably discharged from the Army in December of 1945, after reaching the rank of Technician 4th Grade. After the war he worked as a tool and die maker and was employed by the Unique Machine Company of Montgomeryville for over 30 years. Werner lived on Stevens Street in the Mayfair section of Philadelphia from 1950 until 1988, when he moved to Cornell Drive in Warminster, PA. For the last six years he has been a resident of Twining Manor in Holland, PA. In his leisure time, Werner enjoyed dancing, traveling, and visiting Stone Harbor at the Jersey shore. He took trips to Spain and Germany, and traveled with a group from the 819th Tank Battalion to Las Vegas, Tennessee, and San Francisco. He was a member of the Vereinigung Erzgebirge in Warminster, PA.
