Serafina B. "Penny" Gross of Willow Grove, Pennsylvania died Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at her residence. She was 85 years old. Penny was born May 4, 1929 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Carmen Panebianco and the late Viola Panebianco (nee - Patrelle). She is the beloved wife of Royce Gross; loving mother of James and his wife Sharon, Jeffrey and his wife Connie, Raymond and his partner Keith Schroeder, Joanne Eckert and her husband Alan, and Kristan Moyer and her husband Robert; devoted grandmother of Devin, Timmy, Natalie, Alexandra, Thomas, Anna, Stephen, Elizabeth, Henry, Ruby, and Violet; sister of Albert Panebianco and his wife Marie, Lyn Chandler Angell and her husband Everett, Paul Panebianco and his partner Peter Madden, Carmen Modugno and her husband Enzo; she is also survived by her many nieces and nephews.
Penny was born, raised, and educated in Philadelphia where she graduated from Little Flower Catholic High School for Girls in 1946. She grew up in the Frankford neighborhood of the city. Penny met Royce Gross in the early 1950s when both of them were working at Philco. The couple were married on June 1, 1957 and lived in Northeast Philadelphia for 2 years before moving to the suburbs in Willow Grove in 1959. Penny and Royce have been in Willow Grove ever since. They enjoy spending their leisure time relaxing with their family in Cape May, New Jersey. Penny was a selfless person who would frequently put others before herself and was always assisting other people. She loved cooking for her family and spending time with her grandchildren.
Relatives and friends were invited to her visitation on Saturday, October 25, 2014 from 9:00 A.M. and memorial service at 10:30 A.M. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Glenside, 120 North Easton Road, Glenside, PA 19038. Her graveside service followed at Whitemarsh Memorial Park, 1169 Limekiln Pike, Prospectville, PA 19002.
Religious services were conducted by Rev. Henrik Sonntag, pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Glenside.
