Jackob A. Mattes of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania died Friday, March 11, 2016 at Sacred Heart Home. He was 56 years old. Jack was born July 28, 1959 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, son of the late Adam Mattes and Maria Mattes (nee - Dickmann). He is the beloved son of Maria and the late Adam Mattes; brother of Rosalie Matico and her husband Ross; uncle of Christian Matico; nephew of Elisabeth Pohl (nee Mattes) and her husband Oskar, the late Anton Mattes, Monika Siddall and her husband William, Katherina Provasnik and her husband the late Robert; he is also survived by his many cousins and God children.

Jack was born, raised, and educated in Philadelphia where he graduated from Archbishop Ryan High School in 1977. He continued his education at Lincoln Technical Institute and completed training in electronics repair. During high school and technical school, Jack worked part-time at his parent’s bakery, Adam’s Bakery. Jack owned and ran his own repair service, Centennial Video and T.V. Equipment Service on Bustleton Avenue in Northeast Philadelphia, for 10 years in the 1980s and 1990s. He took computer training classes and was certified in computer software and networking.

Jack was a member of Donauschwaben, The Danube Swabian Association in Philadelphia. He was a past member of the club’s board of directors and was a past club treasurer. Jack learned to play the accordion at a young age. He would often play at Donauschwaben, other clubs, and for dance groups including: Donauschwaben Jugendgruppe, the United German Hungarian club and their Schuhplattler dance group. He also performed as a musician in the Mummer’s Parade and in several musical groups including Donauwellen, Black Forest, and Front Page News.

In his free time, Jack enjoyed skiing and spending time at the seashore with friends. He was always tinkering with electronics and anything else that came into his hands. He may be rewiring Heaven itself now. Jack will be remembered for his quick wit and humor and his use and analysis of German slang. He will be missed by his family and friends.
