Dr. Lee A. Bender of Ambler, Pennsylvania died Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at the Artman Lutheran Home in Ambler. He was 71 years old. Lee was born July 27, 1944, the son of the late James L. Bender and the late Mary Louise Bender (nee - Coleman). He is the beloved husband of Carol Schilling; father of David and Andrew Bender; brother of Dennis Bender.

Lee was born and raised in Lakewood, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland. He was a graduate of The College of Wooster in Ohio with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics and Mathematics. He continued his education with an M.B.A. from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, and a Ph.D. in Economics from Temple University. He began his career as a Professor of Economics at Montgomery County Community College in 1968 and played a critical role in shaping the College’s early years in Conshohocken, and its subsequent growth in Blue Bell and Pottstown. Lee was the Dean of the College’s Division of Business and Computer Science from 1989 to 2007, and then went back to teaching as a full-time Professor of Economics. He also was the President of the Faculty Senate. Throughout his tenure, he is credited with developing the initial proposal for the Center for Teaching and Learning, which has since become the Center for Faculty Development; with introducing more than 100 new courses into the College’s Business and Computer Science curriculum; and with teaching the first fully online Economics course.
