Royce E. Gross of Willow Grove, Pennsylvania died Monday, March 28, 2016 at his home. He was 89 years old. Royce was born July 3, 1926, the son of the late Raymond George Gross and the late Mabelle Gross (nee - Laughman). He is the beloved husband of the late Penny B. Gross (nee- Panebianco); loving father of James Gross and his wife Sharon, Jeffrey Gross and his wife Connie, Raymond Gross, Joanne Eckert and her husband Alan, and Kristan Moyer and her husband Robert; devoted grandfather of Devin, Timmy, Natalie, Alexandra, Thomas, Anna, Stephen, Elizabeth, Henry, Ruby, and Violet; brother of Arlene Hershner and her late husband Emory, Quay Gross and his wife Maryann, and the late Madolyn Anderson and her late husband Howard. He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews.

Royce was born, raised, and educated in Shiloh, York County, Pennsylvania where he graduated from William Penn High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy on June 12, 1944 and served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater and in the liberation of the Philippines during World War II. Royce was honorably discharged from the service on June 30, 1947 after reaching the rank of Electricians Mate, 2nd Class. After the war he attended Temple University where he received an Associates Degree in electrical engineering. Royce met Serafina “Penny” Panebianco in the early 1950s when they were both employed at the Philco Company in Philadelphia. The couple were married on June 1, 1957 and lived in Northeast Philadelphia for two years before moving to the suburbs, becoming residents of Willow Grove in 1959. Royce worked for the General Electric Company as a technical writer until his retirement. In his leisure time he enjoyed wood carving, and was a member of the Delaware Valley Wood Carvers Association. Royce and Penny enjoyed spending time relaxing with their family in Cape May, New Jersey.

Relatives and friends were invited to his visitation on Saturday, April 2, 2016 after 9:00 A.M. and to his memorial service at 10:30 A.M. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 120 North Easton Road, Glenside, PA 19038 www.stpaulsglenside.org. His graveside service, with military honors rendered by the United States Navy, followed at Whitemarsh Memorial Park, 1169 Limekiln Pike, Prospectville, PA 19002.

Religious services were conducted by Rev. Henrik Sonntag, pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
