Joan Marie McCarthy of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania died Thursday, April 16, 2020 at Jefferson Torresdale Hospital. She was 83 years old. Joan was born June 13, 1936 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Herbert Graham and the late Blanche Graham (nee - Dooley). She is the beloved wife of the late James J. McCarthy; mother of Dolores Jonczak and her husband Chip, Denise, James and his wife Carlene, Daniel and his wife Jodi, and the late David McCarthy and his wife Theresa; grandmother of 14 and the great grandmother of 14; sister of the late Isabelle Barbour.
Joan was born, raised, and educated in Philadelphia. She was a graduate of Jules E. Mastbaum High School. She met James while skating at Carmen Skating Rink. They fell in love and were married at St. Hugh of Cluny Parish in the Fairhill section of Philadelphia. They started their lives together at 2nd and Tioga in an apt., and had over thirty years at Christ the King Parish in Philadelphia. They moved to South Carolina in the 1990’s. In 2001 Joan and James moved back to the area making their new home in North Wales, PA.
Services were private.
Religious services were conducted by Reverend Todd Foster from St. Thomas Episcopal Church 212 North Main Street, Glassboro, NJ 08028.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, PO Box 1000, Department 142, Memphis, TN 38148.
