Louis C. Skari of Furlong, Pennsylvania died Saturday, July 15, 2017 at Holy Redeemer Hospital Hospice. He was 95 years old. Louis was born March 2, 1922 in Antrim Township, Pennsylvania, son of the late Peter Skari and the late Bertha Skari (nee - Hafer). He is the beloved husband of the late Dorothy Skari (nee - Kix); father of John Skari and Kathy Skari; grandfather of John Skari, Jr. and Nicholas Skari. He was predeceased by his siblings Sophia Smolka, George Skari, Dorothea Skari, and Ernest Skari.

Louis was born in Antrin Township, Franklin County, PA in 1922 and lived in Waynesboro, PA until his family moved to Philadelphia when he was 7 years old. He was raised and educated in Philadelphia, where he attended the old Northeast High School in the city. He enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II and was honorably discharged from the service on May 25, 1945, after reaching the rank of Electrician’s Mate Third Class. After leaving the Navy, Louis was first employed as an electrician at the Philadelphia Navy Yard and then became a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service working out of the Post Office at 2nd and Olney Avenues, where he worked until his retirement in the early 1980’s. He was a long time resident of 6216 Oakley Street in the Lawndale section of Philadelphia until moving into the Lafayette Redeemer Retirement Community at 8580 Verree Road in the city.

Relatives and friends were invited to his viewing on Saturday, July 22, 2017 from 9:00 A.M. and funeral service at 10:30 A.M. at the Wetzel and Son Funeral Home, 419 Huntingdon Pike, Rockledge, PA 19046. His graveside service and military honors rendered by the United States Navy followed at Hillside Cemetery, 2556 Susquehanna Road, Roslyn, PA 19001.
