Joseph F. Walker, Jr. of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania died Sunday, July 10, 2016 at Holy Redeemer Hospital. He was 75 years old. Joseph was born June 29, 1941 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, son of the late Joseph Walker Sr. and the late Irene Walker (nee - Klein). He is the beloved husband of Dorothy M. Walker; brother of John Walker and his wife Joanne and James Walker and his wife Patricia; uncle of John Walker, Jr. and his wife Natalie, Jason Walker and his wife Michele, and Justin Walker and his wife Kerry, and Erin Bascug and her husband Jon, James Walker, Jr. and his wife Kari, Andrew Walker and his wife Gabrielle, and Laura Walker, and John Calhoun and his wife Mary, and Matthew Calhoun and his wife Karen; great uncle of John and Graham Walker, Jason, Lucas, and Olivia Walker, Justin, Andrew, and Evan Walker, Evan and Liam Bascug, Cecelia and Vivienne Walker, Patrick, and Charles Walker, Amanda, Kristine, and Sean Calhoun, and Victoria and Alexandria Calhoun.
Joseph was raised in the “5th and Hunting Park” neighborhood of Philadelphia. He graduated from the Northeast High School Class of 1959 and afterward attended the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business. In 1965, Joseph entered into the United States Navy where he served honorably during the Vietnam War. During his years in the Navy, he spend the majority of enlistment in Turkey as a Communications Technician. After returning home from active duty, Joseph would be wed to Dorothy M. Casto in 1978 at the Zion Lutheran Church in the Olney section of Philadelphia. The two would share more than 38 years of loving marriage. In his free time, Joseph was very active in a multitude of fraternal organizations: he is the Past Worshipful Master of the Humboldt Lodge Number No. 359 F. &A.M. and a member Hermann-Humboldt Lodge No. 125 of the Free and Accepted Masons and their brother organization, the Shriners; the Past President of the Order of Eagles; the President of Philadelphia’s Buick Car Club (for antique Buicks); and a longtime member of the Penn’s Landing Trolley Association.
Relatives and friends were invited to his viewing on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 from 6:00 P.M. and funeral service at 8:00 P.M. at Wetzel and Son Funeral Home, 419 Huntingdon Pike, Rockledge, PA 19046. Relatives and friends were also invited to his graveside service and military honors rendered by the United States Navy on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 promptly at 10:00 A.M. at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road, Newtown, PA 18940 www.cem.va.gov/cems/nchp/washingtoncrossing.asp.
Religious services were conducted by Fr. Skip Miller.
