Catherine A. McLaughlin of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania died Thursday, July 21, 2016 at Jeanes Hospital. She was 87 years old. Catherine was born March 5, 1929 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Dominic Albanese and the late Josephine Albanese (nee - Mancini). She is the beloved wife of the late Stewart E. McLaughlin; mother of Joanne C. McLaughlin and her husband, the late Paul Hathaway; grandmother of Michael Patkus and his wife, Jessica; sister of the late Thomas and his wife the late Mary Albanese and Robert and his wife Florence Albanese.
Catherine was born, raised, and educated in Philadelphia. She grew up in South Philadelphia and later moved to the Oxford Circle section of Philadelphia where she attended St. Martin of Tours Grade School. Catherine was a 1946 graduate of Little Flower High School for Girls. After her schooling she went to work for the local distributor for “Dish Night at the Movies”. A promotion where Salem Dishware was given away at movie theaters as a promotion in the 1930’s and 40’s. It is here that she met Stewart McLaughlin who was recently honorably discharged from the United States Army and working in the warehouse. They were married on June 24, 1950 at St. Martin of Tours Parish. Catherine and Stewart raised their daughter in Oxford Circle and moved to Lawndale in 1973. In 1958, Catherine went to work for the Department of Defense Industrial Supply Center. She retired in 1998 from her position as Purchasing Agent. Catherine loved the theater, opera, reading, shopping, and collecting dishes (a hobby no doubt inspired from her earlier career). It was her greatest gift to host holidays for her family.
