Irmgard Zwirnmann formerly of the Fox Chase section of Philadelphia and Lake Wallenpaupack, Pennsylvania died Sunday, September 2, 2018 at Memory Care at the Park. She was 88 years old. Irmgard was born August 4, 1930 in Konstanz, Germany, daughter of the late Fredrich and the late Hannalor Bächler. She is the beloved wife of the late Fritz Zwirnmann; loving mother of Ralph and his wife Dona and Eric and his wife Sharon; grandmother of Andrew and Alyssa Hutchinson; sister of Erika Bächler.

Irmgard was born, raised, and educated in Konstanz, Germany located at the western end of Lake Constance in the south-west corner of Germany, bordering Switzerland. It is here that she learned the art of making dresses and became a master seamstress. Irmgard emigrated into the United States in the early 1950’s and met Fritz while taking night classes to learn the English language. Irmgard was a talented seamstress and worked for Nan Duskin, Alfred Angelo, and Wanamaker’s. She was key in the production of the wedding dress used in the movie “Rocky II”. Irmgard loved to make wedding dresses from home for her family and friends to their specifications. In her free time, she enjoyed traveling and cruising with Fritz and friends, working in her flower garden, being out on the water (Lake Wallenpaupack), and spending time with family and friends.

Relatives and friends were invited to her viewing on Thursday, September 6, 2018 from 9:30 A.M. and funeral service at 10:30 A.M. at Wetzel and Son Funeral Home, 419 Huntingdon Pike, Rockledge, PA 19046. Relatives and friends were also invited to her graveside service on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at 11:30 AM sharp at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road, Newtown, PA 18940.

Religious services were conducted by Rev. R. Don Wright from Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1013 Cottman Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19111.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Gloria Dei Benevolent Fund at The Park, 3455 Davisville Road, Hatboro, PA 19040 or Alzheimer’s Association Delaware Valley Chapter, 399 Market Street, Suite 102, Philadelphia, PA 19106.
