Arthur J. Ballard of Meadowbrook, PA, Stratton, VT, Scottsdale, AZ and most recently Rydal, PA died Saturday, September 8, 2018. He was 84 years old. Arthur was born July 12, 1934 in Northborough, MA, son of the late Arthur Joseph Ballard (“Ted”) and the late May Francis Ballard (nee - Bouvier). He is survived by his wife of 57 years Mona Ballard; son David Arthur Ballard and his wife Susan Gavlick, daughter Sharon Ballard Richardson, and the late Steven Joseph Ballard and his wife Maureen McNally Ballard; and grandchildren JD, Craig, and Paige Ballard, Lindsay, Hannah, and Payson Richardson, and Maddie, Tessa and Luke Ballard.

Art was born, raised, and educated in the small town of Northborough, MA. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Massachusetts in 1955, and a Degree in Foreign Trade from the Thunderbird School of Global Management in Phoenix, AZ in 1962.

Art’s employment at the Rohm & Haas Company from 1961 to 1990, included roles as Finance Manager in Bogota, Colombia 1963-1967, Assistant General Manager in Barcelona, Spain 1967-1969 and General Manager in Bogota, Colombia from 1969-1971 before returning to Philadelphia for the remainder of his career. He was the Corporate Planning Director at the time of his retirement.

Art was a member of the Board of Trustees at the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy & Science, now the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, from 1980 until 1990. He was President of the Rohm & Haas Credit Union for several years and also served on the Board of Directors for Gloria Dei Outreach Corporation during the construction of Gloria Dei Towers and Gloria Dei Manor.
He started skiing in his early 40’s and built a house in Stratton, VT, which inspired many family ski trips.

After retiring, Art took up golf and he and Mona split their time between Scottsdale, AZ and Stratton, VT until they returned to Rydal in 2004 to live closer to their grandchildren, but they continued to spend summers and holidays in VT until late 2015.

After returning to PA in 2004 Art became active again at Gloria Dei Church, serving on the Missions Team, Endowment Team and the Finance Team.

Known for his love of baseball trivia, Art was a diehard Boston Red Sox fan and was the happiest fan ever when the Red Sox finally won their first World Series in his lifetime in 2004.

Relatives and friends were invited to a Memorial Service on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 10:30 A.M. at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 570 Welsh Road, Huntingdon Valley, PA 19006. The Rev. Dr. Jerrett Hansen, former pastor, led the service.
