Louis John Konen of Southampton, Pennsylvania passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at Temple University Hospital. He was 51 years old. Louis was born July 29, 1965 in Meadowbrook, Pennsylvania, son of John C. Konen and Judith M. Konen (nee - Obermiller). He is the beloved husband of Heather Lynn Konen (nee Borek); loving father of Tyler and Michael Konen; brother of Donna Hanson and her husband Kyle Farris, Mary Allodoli and her husband Carlo, Kristen Cassell and her husband Joel, Judith Nyari and her husband Ronald; son in law of Frank and Joanne Borek; brother in law of Christina Murphy and her husband Larry, Elizabeth Francis and her husband Robert, and Diana Ecker and her husband Matthew. He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews.
From his early age, Lou was adventurous. He smelled everything from the newly laid carpet in his bedroom to the car's hot cigarette lighter, ouch. His adventures led to his being cuffed at the local Philly police station at the age of two, to being retained at the local Tokyo police station at the age of eight, neither occasion being an offense, just being too young to be alone. During his youth, Lou lived in a variety of places; Philadelphia, Southampton PA, Tokyo Japan (twice), Manila, Philippines, Walnut Creek CA, Bonners Ferry ID, and Montrose PA before returning to his Philly and Southampton roots. It is rumored that Lou lived for a short time in Beverly Hills CA, but even Inspector Clouseau could not confirm or negate the rumor, except that he did live in the LA area for roughly one month. As a result, Lou has many friends around the world.
Lou met Heather on June 30, 2000 in Richboro, PA. Their first date may have started a little rough, with a questionable mode of transportation and a closed kitchen at their original destination, but ended with a wonderful meal and unadulterated conversation that blossomed into a romance. They were married on December 5, 2004 at the New Apostolic Church in Bucks County. Lou was a self employed General Contractor with a passion for finish carpentry. He was a gifted craftsman when it came to trim work, coffered ceilings and custom moulding. He enjoyed sports, playing baseball and basketball as a youth and later golf. He was assistant coach for his son’s soccer team through American Glory Soccer Club. Lou loved to garden, make craft beers, enjoy music, especially his favorite band the “Grateful Dead”, and cook masterfully for friends and family. To picture Lou's enthusiasm and energy, look no further than Tyler and Michael. Lou went full stream ahead from the early morning until early evening when he crashed on the couch watching either Law and Order or whichever sporting event was happening that night. His greatest joy was his two sons and will be remembered for being an outgoing individual whose favorite quote was “I’ve never had it so good!”
Relatives and friends were invited to his visitation on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 from 4:30 to 6:45 P.M. and funeral service at 7:00 P.M. at New Apostolic Church - Bucks County, 404 Pine Run Road, Doylestown, PA 18901.
In lieu of flowers, a fund has being established for an educational trust for Tyler and Michael. Checks can be made out to "IShares529plan" c/o Wetzel and Son, 501 Easton Road Willow Grove, PA 19090. Please indicate on the envelope “for Konen Family”.
