Joan’s family has lovingly composed the following obituary:
Joan Louise Arends (nee Hagenah) born April 11, 1947 entered into eternal rest on March 16, 2017 after a life of abundant love for others.
Born in New York, NY, Joan’s early childhood was happily spent in Kingston NY in the company of her parents and sisters, Elizabeth and Ruth. After the passing of her mother Joan and her father relocated to Queens, NY. In 1967 she married the love of her life, Richard Arends and together they had three children: Scott (Amy), Sandra Joy (Philip Kuhl) and Jeffrey (Kimberly). She delighted in her grandchildren and had a fierce love for each of them: Maggie, David, Spencer, Jacob, Wesley and Timothy.
Her "family" extended far beyond blood relatives and includes too many to mention. Richard and her children are exceedingly grateful for the love and support of all those who have held her in prayer during her year-long battle with cancer. To honor Joan’s life the family urges all to perform an act of love and service; these deeds will have a greater impact than any floral arrangement possibly could.
Relatives and friends were invited to her memorial service on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 10:30 A.M. at New Apostolic Church, 819 Edwards Road, Parsippany, NJ 07054.
