Rudy E. Roscher of Southampton, Pennsylvania died Thursday, June 28, 2018 at Holy Redeemer Hospital Hospice. He was 87 years old. Rudy was born July 26, 1930 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, son of the late Emil Roscher and the late Erna Roscher (nee - Rheinhardt). He is the beloved husband of Eleanor Roscher; father of Bruce Roscher and his wife Lisa, Eileen Louie and her husband the late Raymond, Karen Roscher, and Paul Roscher and his wife Susan; grandfather of Liz, Angie, and Katie Roscher, Erica Louie, Raymond Louie (Amanda), Stephanie, Jenny, and Eric Roscher.

Rudy was born, raised, and educated in Philadelphia where he graduated from Andrew J. Morrison School in 1943 and Murrell Dobbins Vocational High School in 1947. During his childhood Rudy lived in the Olney section of the city and was friends with Eleanor Meiner who lived on the same street as he did. Eleanor’s family moved and Rudy and Eleanor lost touch. They reconnected in their teenage years, became a couple and were married on August 30, 1952. They lived with Eleanor’s parents for a while in Feltonville before moving into their first house on Hasbrook Avenue in Lawndale. Rudy and Eleanor raised their children in the Hasbrook Avenue home and joined Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in the neighborhood. They moved to their current home in Southampton in 1998.

Rudy’s technical training at school gave him the skills to be a television repair man after his graduation. He was drafted into the United States Army in January of 1952. His most notable duty assignment was with the Signal Radio Relay Company in Japan. His honors included: Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and a Good Conduct Medal. Rudy was honorably discharged in January of 1954 having reached the rank of Corporal. After his discharge, Rudy was attending an Army Reserve meeting and was offered a job by a representative of AT&T. He took the position and remained with the company, becoming a manager / engineer, until his retirement in 1988.

In his free time, Rudy loved playing Pinochle; especially with his friends at Vereinigung Erzgebirge where he was a long-standing member. He enjoyed stamp and coin collecting and building and running model trains. Rudy had fun bowling and played in leagues over the years. He was also a Philadelphia Phillies fan.
