Giovanni DiMeo of Elkins Park, Pennsylvania died Monday, July 9, 2018 at his home. He was 95 years old. Giovanni was born May 17, 1923 in Torricella Peligna, Italy, son of the late Mariano DiMeo and the late Graziela DiMeo (nee - Barchiesi). He is the beloved husband of the late Ruth DiMeo (nee - Wacker); father of Gloria Ebling and her husband Gary, Jeanette DiMeo -Tresky and her husband Howard, and Grace Nathanson and her husband Alan; grandfather of Susan Sinclair and her husband Dustin and Steven and his wife Steph, Michael and Curtis Nathanson; great grandfather of Ali Lynn Nathanson; brother of the late Luisa Piccone, the late Frank DiMeo, and the late Mary Crisci.

Giovanni came to the United States at the age of 10 with his mother to join his father who had immigrated earlier. The family settled in West Philadelphia where Giovanni was educated. He continued his education at Oklahoma A & M and Lehigh University. Giovanni was drafted into the United States Army in 1943 and was trained at Radar School in Camp Stewart, GA. He was promoted to Tech Sergeant and given the responsibility to guard the weather radar in Greenland used by the allied generals to predict the weather for the D-Day invasion. Giovanni was honorably discharged in 1946 and went to work for the Government. Using his education he worked as an electrical engineer for 30 years at Johnsville Naval Air Development Center (NADC) in Warminster, PA working on stealth radar and other government projects. Giovanni and Ruth were married on December 27, 1949. They enjoyed long walks, walking 6-10 miles a day, in retirement, up Huntingdon Pike and Rhawn Street. Giovanni was admired by many for the way he cared for his beloved Ruth through her Alzheimer's for 11 years until her passing in 2008. In his free time, he enjoyed making functional objects from scrap items, gardening and landscaping. He loved opera and classical music and shared his loves and talents with his family.

Relatives and friends were invited to his viewing on Saturday, July 14, 2018 from 9:00 A.M. and funeral service at 10:00 A.M. at St. Timothy’s Lutheran Church, 7965 Fillmore Street, Philadelphia, PA 19111. His graveside service with military honors rendered by the United States Army followed at Lawnview Cemetery, 500 Huntingdon Pike, Rockledge, PA 19046.

Religious services were conducted by Pastor Deborah Wolfe from St. Timothy’s Lutheran Church.
