Frederick G. Betz Sr. of Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania died Friday, August 31, 2018 at Abington Hospital Jefferson Health. He was 88 years old. Frederick was born April 20, 1930 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Fred Betz and the late Helen P. Betz (nee - Schad). He is the beloved husband of the late Eleanor “Ellie” Betz; father of Frederick Betz, Jr. and his wife Diane, Richard Betz and his wife Carol, Theodore Betz and his wife Lisa, and Thomas Betz and his wife Carol; grandfather of Frederick Betz III and his wife Ana, Christy Rheam and her husband Michael, Holly Betz, Richard Betz, Jr and his wife April, Daniel Betz and his wife Amanda, Gregory Betz and his wife Gretchen, Jennifer Betz, Andrew Betz, Kevin Betz, Jaclyn Betz, Brian Betz, Philip Williams, and Lawrence Williams; great grandfather of Nicholas, Santiago, Emiliana, Addison, and Gillian Betz, and Ellie, Agatha and Harrison Rheam; brother of Herbert Betz and his wife Rosemarie, Elsie Oerter and her late husband George, and Esther Bader and her husband Gerhard.

Fred was born, raised, and educated in the Fox Chase section of Philadelphia. He was a graduate of Northeast High School in the city and received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Architecture from Penn State University. After graduation Fred served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged from the service on June 20, 1956 after reaching the rank of First Lieutenant. Fred was the president and architect of Fred Betz & Sons Inc. a family business. He took great pride in designing and constructing hundreds of homes from Northeast Philadelphia to Bucks County, PA. He had been a longtime resident of Huntingdon Valley, PA.

Relatives and friends were invited to his visitation on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 from 9:30 A.M. and to his memorial service at 11:00 A.M. at the Gloria Dei Church, 570 Welsh Road, Huntingdon Valley, PA 19006. Religious services were conducted by Dr. Karyn Wiseman, pastor of Gloria Dei Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Gloria Dei Church, 570 Welsh Road, Huntingdon Valley, PA 19006.
