George Serban a longtime resident of Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania died Saturday, November 3, 2018 at his son Frank’s home in Doylestown. He was 85 years old. George was born March 2, 1933 in Nyíregyháza, Hungary, son of the late Michael Serban and the late Mary Serban (nee - Merecs). He is the beloved husband of the late Maria T. Serban; father of George Serban and his wife Piri, Michael Serban and his wife Dorothy, and Frank Serban and his wife Jeanne; nagyapu of George, Michael, Nicole, Caroline, Christian, Simone, Camille, and Jacqueline Serban. He was preceded in death by his parents and 8 siblings.

George was born, raised, and educated in Nyíregyháza, a city in northeastern Hungary and the county capital of Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg. He traveled west, to the city of Budapest, where he was educated in the tailoring trade. He emigrated to the United States in 1957 after serving as a Hungarian freedom fighter and escaping The Hungarian Revolution of 1956. He returned to Hungary in 1968 and met Maria Posan, the two fell in love and were married. They raised their sons in Huntingdon Valley, PA. George worked as a tailor for his entire working career. He was owner and operator of George’s Tailor Shop in Rockledge, PA for 34 years. George was a founding member of the Hungarian Club in Southampton, PA and was a member for many years at the Magyar Tanya, a Hungarian sports and social club located in Barto, Berks County, PA. George was a lifelong fan of soccer. He enjoyed watching the Philadelphia Union and Flyers. He was an avid runner, walker, and an exercise enthusiast. George especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren play soccer for their school and club teams.

Relatives and friends were invited to his viewing on Friday, November 9, 2018 from 9:00 A.M. and Funeral Mass at 10:00 A.M. at St. Hilary of Poitiers Church, 820 Susquehanna Road, Rydal, PA 19046. His entombment followed at 11:20 A.M. at Lawnview Cemetery, 500 Huntingdon Pike, Rockledge, PA 19046.

Religious services were conducted by Fr. Kevin P. Murray from St. Hilary of Poitiers Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Autism Cares Foundation, 816 Second Street Pike, Southampton, PA 18966.
