Rose Shannon of Rockledge, Pennsylvania died Sunday, June 2, 2019 at Holy Redeemer Hospital Hospice. She was 87 years old. Rose was born November 25, 1931 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Frank Bressi and the late Beatrice Bressi (nee - Greco). She is the beloved wife of the late Lester Shannon; sister of Anna Bressi, Dora Crawford and her husband Edward and Frank Bressi, Jr., and her late brothers Vincent, Nicholas, and Peter; she is also survived by her many nieces and nephews.
As a student at South Philadelphia High School for Girls, Rose was a Scholar / Athlete. After graduation from Temple University, she went on to teach science in the Neshaminy School District. Later she earned a Master’s Degree in Library Science from Drexel University, and became a librarian, also in Neshaminy.
She and her husband Lester both loved tennis, flea-markets, and cats, and enjoyed their winter vacations in Florida for many years. Rose loved giving carefully selected Christmas gifts to the children in our family. All who knew Rose knew of her compassion for people and animals in need. She will be fondly remembered and missed.
Relatives and friends were invited to her visitation on Thursday, June 6, 2019 from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. at Wetzel and Son Funeral Home, 419 Huntingdon Pike, Rockledge, PA 19046. Her graveside service followed at Sunset Memorial Park, 333 West County Line Road, Feasterville, PA 19053.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Charity of the donor’s choice.
