L. David Leiter of Lansdale, Pennsylvania died Thursday, July 4, 2019 at Harborview Rehab and Care Center Lansdale. He was 82 years old. Dave was born October 21, 1936 in Coatesville, Pennsylvania, son of the late Mac Leiter and the late Sarah Leiter (nee - Mercer). He is the beloved husband of 58 years of Ellen K. Leiter (nee - Kurczyna); father of Robert Leiter and his wife Carol and the late Dorothy Mayer; grandfather of Joey Leiter and Chad Mayer; great grandfather of Lillianna Mayer; brother of Judy, Carol, Rosemary, Nancy, Grace and the late Olga; brother-in-law Margaret Chew and her husband Curtis. He is also survived by a loving extended family, friends, and colleagues in The Society for Scientific Exploration.

Dave was raised in the Burholme neighborhood of Philadelphia. As a teenager, and possibly as a precursor to his later career path, he was an accomplished model airplane modeler and pilot. Dave graduated from Drexel University with his Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and earned the higher honor of Professional Engineer. Although he was drafted into the United States Military, because of his educational background he was deferred from active service into the Space Program where he was involved in the planning and design of the Minuteman Missile Program. During his long and brilliant working years as a Mechanical Engineer, Dave was an inventor and filed more than 20 patents. He was a longtime member of the Mensa Society and The Scientific Society of Exploration.
In his time away from work, Dave was a loving spouse, doting father, and proud grand- and great-grandfather. He will be sorely missed by all those that knew him.

Relatives and friends were invited to his viewing on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 from 6:00 P.M. and funeral service at 8:00 P.M. at Wetzel and Son Funeral Home, 501 Easton Road, Willow Grove, PA 19090.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to The Society for Scientific Exploration, c/o Elissa Hoeger Membership and Accounts Receivable, PO Box 8012, Princeton, NJ 08543.

Family flowers arranged by Kremp Florist 215-657-6700.
