Michael J. Caputo of Horsham, Pennsylvania died Friday, September 13, 2019 at Abington Hospital Jefferson Health. He was 77 years old. Michael was born July 16, 1942 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, son of the late Michael F. Caputo and the late Sara Caputo (nee - McGuigan). He is the beloved husband of the late H. Jean Caputo; father of Michael Caputo Jr. and his wife Heide, the late Mark Caputo, Matthew Caputo, Michele Lyons and her husband Edward, Melissa Adasavage and her husband Mark; grandfather of Lauren Caputo, Michael Caputo III, Anthony Lyons, Katelyn Lyons, Jessica Messerschmidt, Linzy Messerschmidt, Christopher Messerschmidt, Alexis Adasavage, and the late Michael Adasavage; great grandfather of Benjamin Magni, Silas Adasavage, and Lilliana Jean Behrle.
Michael grew up in Philadelphia where he met Jean. The two married on May 12, 1962 at St. John Bosco Parish in Warminster, PA. Michael and Jean raised their growing family in Horsham, PA where they have resided for over the past 50 years. Michael was a Teamster for over fifty years with various unions but retiring from Local 500 and President of the Teamsters Local 500 Retirees. As President, he was 100% devoted to making sure his retirees were taken care of. He was the first to reach out if they would need assistance, he set up luncheons, Christmas parties and raised funds through various fundraising efforts. He was an avid Phillies and Eagles fan, rarely missing a game. Michael loved to fish with his sons and host swimming parties at the house for his family and especially for his beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren. Michael made sure that his family was taken care of until the end.
Relatives and friends were invited to his viewing on Thursday, September 19, 2019 from 10:00 A.M. and Funeral Mass at 11:00 A.M. at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 321 Witmer Road, Horsham, PA 19044. His graveside service followed at St. John Neumann Cemetery, 3797 County Line Road, Chalfont, PA 18914.
Religious services were conducted by Rev. Joseph F. Rymdeika from St. Catherine of Siena Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Teamsters Local 500 Retirees Chapter, 3460 North Delaware Avenue, Room 301, Philadelphia, PA 19134.
