The following obituary was lovingly composed by Gloria’s family:

Gloria Pacifica Wilson, age 91, passed away peacefully October 1, 2019. She was born in Bremerton, Washington to John and Margaret Baumgartel. Gloria was pre-deceased by sisters, Phyllis Kahn, and Melba Gibler. After graduating from Bremerton High School in 1946, she started work as a telephone operator in Seattle commuting by ferry across Puget Sound. It was in Bremerton where she met a Naval officer from Philadelphia, Joseph A. Wilson, shortly before he was due to ship from the Bremerton Navy Base to Korea. Before deploying, he proposed on their second date and they married 13 months later in Bremerton in 1951.

Leaving behind her mother, sisters and her beloved Pacific Northwest, Gloria moved to the East Coast after marriage where she would become the loving mother of 8 children; Mark (Susan), Andrea Rupnick (Joe), Phil, Nancy McCann (Harry), Jennifer, Luke (Helene), Lisa Staerk (Mike), and Stephanie. Havre de Grace, Md., Longport, NJ, Northeast Philadelphia, and Abington, Pa, would be residences where Joe and Gloria raised their children and made many wonderful friends. Between her motherly duties, Gloria loved to draw, paint and be outdoors gardening. While living in Abington for many years, Gloria was an active volunteer in Our Lady Help of Christians Parish sharing her creative talents by decorating the church and teaching the school children art.

A few years after Joseph’s death in 2000, Gloria moved to Anne’s Choice in Warminster, Pa where she enjoyed going to shows, traveling, playing games, and painting with many dear friends until her death. Gloria is survived by her 8 children, 12 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, a brother-in-law, George B. Wilson, S.J, and many nieces and nephews in the Philadelphia area, up and down the East Coast, and in the Pacific Northwest. She loved being around all of them.

Gloria’s family received friends from 9:30 to 10:45 on Saturday, Nov. 9, at St. Genevieve Church, 1225 Bethlehem Pike, Flourtown, PA 19031 followed by mass at 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Rotary Special Athletes, c/o Ann Ohmott, 102 Quince Ave, Hatboro, PA 19040, an organization appreciated for the many years of love provided to Gloria’s daughter, Stephanie.
