Eileen Patrice O’Connell Douglass, of Meadowbrook, Pennsylvania, died peacefully at her home on Saturday, September 12, 2026. She was 80 years old. Eileen was born on April 10, 1946, in Washington, D.C., the daughter of the late Denis Edmond O’Connell and the late Elizabeth Mary O’Connell (née Reidy). She grew up in Chevy Chase, Maryland.

Eileen earned her degree in Library Science from the University of Maryland and began her career with the D.C. Court of Appeals, where she helped establish and organize the court’s law library. She later followed her passion for books, learning, and children, becoming a children’s librarian at the public library in Elkins Park, where she found great fulfillment in sharing her love of reading with young people. Eileen also devoted herself to her community, helping run programs at the Cheltenham Township Adult School and organizing continuing education classes for township residents.

Eileen was the beloved wife of the late Edwin “Pete” Douglass, M.D. Pete and Eileen were married on May 23, 1981, in Silver Spring, Maryland. Together, they built a loving family. Their son, Edwin O. “Ned” Douglass, arrived from Korea in 1985, followed by their daughter, Mary Elizabeth “Mollee” Douglass, in 1987.

Eileen had a particular love of gardening and took great pleasure in creating and tending beautiful spaces. She also enjoyed making dollhouses and miniatures, a hobby that reflected her patience, creativity, and appreciation for small details. An avid reader throughout her life, Eileen was especially fascinated by history and loved learning about historic places and the stories connected to them.

Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing on Saturday, September 19, 2026 from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. and funeral service at 10:00 A.M. at Wetzel and Son Funeral Home, 419 Huntingdon Pike, Rockledge, PA 19046.  Her graveside service will follow at Lawnview Cemetery, 500 Huntingdon Pike, Rockledge, PA 19046.
