Richard John MacElwee a lifelong resident of Willow Grove, Pennsylvania died Monday, February 17, 2020 at Neshaminy Manor. He was 94 years old. Richard was born July 7, 1925 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, son of the late Horace MacElwee and the late Norma MacElwee (nee - Pollack). He is the beloved husband of the late Helen Louise MacElwee; Father of Robin L. Moyer and Leigh Ann Schrope and her husband Ken. Grandfather of Shannon L. McClure and her wife Colleen, Kenny Schrope, Jr. and Dylan Thomas Schrope. Brother of the late Norma Lobley.
Richard was raised and educated in Willow Grove where he attended Abington High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy at age 16 and served honorably during the Second World War. He was discharged with the rank of Printer Second Class in July of 1946. Richard and Helen were married just shy of sixty years at her passing in 2009. He was a union plumber for many years and also drove for ADP. Proud of his Navy and military brothers and sisters he joined the Veteran of Foreign Wars and American Legion Posts in Willow Grove. Richard enjoyed printing as a continued hobby and riding his motorcycle which he did up until 87 years old. He was able to stay active, going to the YMCA until 92 years old. He also had a love of swing music.
At the family request, services were private.
