Walter Grohs of Fox Chase, Philadelphia, died Monday, September 28, 2020 at home surrounded by his family. He was born December 12,1939 in Marktleugast, Germany. Walt was 80 years young. He was the son of the late Hans Grohs and the late Meta Grohs (nee Schütz). Walt was the beloved husband of the late Katherine M. Grohs (nee Wittner), father of Walt Grohs Jr. and his wife Gina and Rose Lang and her husband Lee. He was also the proud grandfather of Walter and his wife Kelly, Michael, Joseph, Tylar and Lee Jr..
 
Walt immigrated to the United States in June of 1959 and enlisted in the United Stated Army in March of 1962. He served honorably and was discharged with the rank of Specialist in March of 1968. Walt met Kathy at an event at the United German Hungarian Club. The two fell in love and were married August 4, 1962 at Presentation BVM Church. He was proud to receive his US citizenship in the 1980’s and after serving his adopted country. They began their family in the Parkwood section of Philadelphia and later moved to Fox Chase. He was a longtime member of the Danube Swabian Association of Philadelphia (Donauschwabian).
 
Relatives and friends were invited to his viewing on Thursday, October 8, 2020 from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM. His Funeral Mass followed at 11:00 AM at St. Bede the Venerable Church, 1071 Holland Road, Holland, PA 18966. His graveside service with Military Honors rendered by the United States Army followed at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 3301 West Cheltenham Avenue, Cheltenham, PA 19038.
 
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to Fox Chase Cancer Center.
