Barbara Blanche Pope of Hatboro, Pennsylvania died Monday, August 3, 2026 at Gloria Dei Personal Care at The Park. She was 82 years old. Barbara was born February 17, 1944 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Herbert Northcote and the late Evelyn Carrie Northcote (nee - Strawley). She is the beloved wife of 54 years of the late David Haines Pope; devoted mother of Wendi Rank and her husband Donald, David H. Pope and his wife Laura Walter, and Amy Beaver and her husband Jeremy; grandmother of 8; sister of Judith Borsuk and her husband the late Ronald and their daughter Chris. She is also the beloved aunt of many nieces and nephews.

Barbara met David while she was working as a bank teller. David was driving busses for Greyhound and would periodically stop into her bank. One day, after receiving his promotional toaster, he turned around and invited Barbara to the Marine Corps Ball. She said yes, the two met for brief conversation that lasted three hours, and turned into a lifetime together. They were married January 18, 1969 at St. David Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northeast Philadelphia. They raised their family in Willow Grove, PA.

Barbara worked as a banker for years but found that she needed a career change. She had a friend who was a nurse who suggested considering health care. Barbara took a job at Abington Hospital and started nursing school. At 50 she finally completed the last of her education that included Nursing School, a Bachelors Degree, and a Masters Degree. For a time she worked as a nurse at both Abington and Albert Einstein Hospitals. She moved full time to Einstein and eventually was responsible as the Chief Nurse Educator for Critical Care at the hospital. Barbara retired from work in 2012.

After retirement Barbara helped out with her grandchildren including helping regularly getting some of them off to school each morning and started with their homework in the afternoons. She enjoyed playing Pinochle with her friends at Gloria Dei Farms and liked performing with the drama club. Barbara loved helping others. She would frequently be enlisted by her neighbors to help others who were feeling poorly for one reason or another and would help direct them to additional medical care as needed.

Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing on Saturday, August 8, 2026 from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. and funeral service at 10:00 A.M. at Wetzel and Son Funeral Home, 501 Easton Road, Willow Grove, PA 19090. Her graveside service will follow at Hillside Cemetery, 2556 Susquehanna Road, Roslyn, PA 19001.
