Sally L. Hopson of LaMott, PA, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 22, 2024. She was 70 years old. Sally was born on June 8, 1953, in Philadelphia, PA, to her loving parents, Doris Fripps and John Hopson. Sally loved and idolized her parents and maternal grandparents, Doris and Lewis Fripps, with whom she spent her formative years. Sally and her mother were a great team and shared one another’s wonderful personality characteristics including beauty, a golden, kind spirit and an iron stubbornness.
Sally was a product of the Cheltenham Township school system, attending Lynnewood Gardens Elementary School, Elkins Park Junior High School and Cheltenham High School. She was an excellent student and had fond memories of the school experience and classmates. After graduation from high school, Sally attended Montgomery County Community College, ultimately obtaining an Associate Degree.
Sally worked for many years in the Psychiatric Mental Health industry in Montgomery and Bucks Counties, PA. In her later years, she worked for the Montgomery County Court System in Norristown and Willow Grove, PA. She retired in 2016 when health issues intervened.
Sally’s fondest memories were of summertime and her glorious childhood friends in LaMott, PA. Special times included attending camp at the LaMott Community Center. In her younger years, she attended Camp Oak Hill Girls Camp where she learned to swim and ride horses.
Sally was an active member of Zion Baptist Church, devoting her time and energy to the church choir which she loved.
As a child, Sally loved going to Atlantic City, Willow Grove Amusement Park and Dorney Park. As she grew older, she enjoyed traveling and made frequent visits to many vacation islands. Sally had a soft spot for animals, treating her furry friends like the valuable family members they were.
Special friends included cousins Kristina, Linda and Jean. The wonderful staff technicians of DaVita Technologies, Abington, PA, and her coworkers at the Montgomery County Courthouse, Willow Grove, PA, were also treasured.
Sally was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents, brothers Gerald and Nathan Richard, sister Betsy Ann, and nephew Richard. Sally is survived by brother Jack, aunts Iredelle and Dorothy, niece Susan and great-nephew Powers.
In recent years, Sally battled numerous illnesses with great courage and spirit. She will be missed by her family and friends.
Relatives and friends were invited to her viewing on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. and funeral service at 11:00 A.M. at Wetzel and Son Funeral Home, 501 Easton Road, Willow Grove, PA 19090. Her graveside service followed at Fairview Cemetery, Twining Road, Upper Dublin , PA 19090.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or online.
