Thomas James "Tom" White of Coatesville, Pennsylvania died Monday, July 15, 2024 at his home after a two year valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 58 years old. Tom was born November 30, 1965 in Abington, Pennsylvania.

Tom is the Beloved husband of 35 years of Sandy Shacklady-White; Son of Annamarie (nee- Stab) and John David White III;Brother of David White and his wife Kathy;Brother-in-law of: Garry and his wife Mary Shacklady, Lynn Shacklady-Black, Bryan Shacklady, Keith Shacklady and his wife Ann Shacklady; Uncle of: Jack White, Mandee Shacklady, Grace Shacklady, and Wrenn Shacklady;

Nephew of: James R. White, Eileen and George Alden, Sandra Lee White, John and Robin Stab, Ruth Ann Lanzar, Lou Ann Lanzar, Patty Peterson and Guy Beard; Cousin through Tom’s family of: Delanie Alden, Victoria Stab, John Robert Stab, Tammy Cook, Jamie Hardy and Nicole Jordan. Additional relationships through Sandy’s family: The Miller Family, the Cauble Family and the Brearey Family. Furthermore, he leaves behind his precious black cat, Sassy, who he raised when she was orphaned at ten days old.

Tom was raised and educated in Abington (Glenside and Roslyn sections). In the 1970s he was a regular at the Glenside Pool with brother David. He attended Overlook and Roslyn Elementary, Cedarbrook Middle, and Cheltenham High School. Tom enjoyed working on the stage crew during theater productions and graduated in 1984. He continued his education receiving two associate’s degree; one from CHI and one from CLC. He earned a certification in residential electrical wiring from Delaware County Community College. Tom and Sandy met while working at Burger King, at Easton and Edge Hill Roads, after high school. They were married on July 8, 1989 at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church in Abington.

In his younger years, Tom worked in the family ceramic shop, J & A Ceramics, in Glenside. He went on to work in asset protection and information technology for several companies including AOS, Sears, HH Gregg, Vanguard Financial, and Ionos. He then went to work for CVS as a pharmacy technician, a job he truly enjoyed before his health forced him to retire early.

Tom enjoyed collecting knives and swords as well as watching various forms of entertainment. He liked to go to live local theater productions. As for TV shows, among his many favorites were Looney Tunes, especially Marvin the Martian, Tom & Jerry, Scooby Doo, Pink Panther, and The Simpsons. In addition, he was a big fan of Star Trek, Star Wars, Marvel/DC Movies, monster movies, and horror movies (but no zombies), Highlander, History Channel, Curse of Oak Island, paranormal shows, Caddy Shack, Young Frankenstein, and anything Disney. His favorite movies were Yankee Doodle Dandy and The Christmas Carol with Alastair Sim. Tom was an avid Dungeons and Dragon player in high school. At gatherings with family & friends, he could light up a room with his laughter and smile. He liked to play board and video games. He adored Halloween and Christmas. He could always be counted on to have a pen knife on hand at Christmas to help cut open those difficult to unwrap gifts. Furthermore, Tom took pleasure in going to the gym to work out with the free weights, weight machines and do cardio. Tom enjoyed traveling with his wife through the United States and Canada especially their two trips to Utah. Tom was especially passionate about cats, having grown up with many. Through the local SPCA, he and Sandy fostered and, in most cases, adopted many cats who had feline leukemia or other ailments. Over 12 years while also fostering cats, he helped at the shelter to care for the animals on a regular basis. Additionally, Tom found pleasure in working with his hands on a variety of projects in his basement workshop or taking classes to learn a new craft or skill. Over the years he took part in the occasional ghost hunts hosted in historical Chester County.

His bright smile, playfulness, laughter and love of life, family and friends will be missed by everyone who had the pleasure to know him.

Relatives and friends were invited to his viewing on Saturday, July 20, 2024 from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. and funeral service at 10:00 A.M. at Wetzel and Son Funeral Home, 501 Easton Road, Willow Grove, PA 19090.  His graveside service followed at Hillside Cemetery, 2556 Susquehanna Road, Roslyn, PA 19001.
