Ernest F. Kinzler, of Philadelphia, PA died peacefully on April 9, 2025. He was 72 years old. Ernie was born December 7, 1952 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Ernest R. and Marie E. Kinzler. He was the father of Michael J. Kinzler (Liz); grandfather to Azour and Kallen; Brother of Barbara (deceased), David (Kelly), Doreen, Marie (Gene), Frederick; Uncle of Richard, Christine, Jessica, Emily, Renee, and Darren; cousin to Ronald (Betteann), Kenneth (Cheryl), Frederick, and Gary.
He attended Carnell Elementary School, Fels Jr. High School, Frankford High School, and Drexel University. Ernie worked for Buckley Company, Inc. and other Construction groups for many years. He also did carpentry, concrete, and other general contracting over the years.
He lived in Philadelphia, PA and Woodstown, NJ, and then back to Philadelphia, PA.
During his lifetime he played Football, Basketball, and Baseball while in High School. He was a member of St. John’s Luther League, Softball League, and Heron’s Dart League. He went daily to the “Office” (also known as Heron’s Tavern).
Ernie liked being at our Shore House each summer: Fishing (if the boat was not being towed), soaking in the hot tub, partying at our Annual Pig Roast (including starting to name the pig each year), and visiting the Fire House Tavern.
Ernie will be missed by his family and friends. Ernie was a good man, not always making the smart choices but always could be counted on when you needed him. Ernie would do anything for anyone, always helping others. He was a savior to our mother when needed the most. He was fearless too, even when he knew the end was fast approaching. As everyone has said, we will miss him and definitely have a void in the family.
Gift of Life was able to recover Ernie’s corneas which will help two people to see; a bone graft which will help someone to walk again; and a skin graft which will be used for women who have had a graft mastectomy.
Relatives and friends were invited to his visitation on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM followed by a memorial service at 10:30 AM at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 3101 Tyson Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19149.
Donations in his memory can be made in his memory to St. John’s Lutheran Church, 3101 Tyson Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19149.
