John “Jack” Morris of Rockledge, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 24, 2025 at his home. He was 66 years old. John was born in 1958 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to the late Gerald Morris and Grace Morris (née Kelley) Morris. He is the beloved husband of Lisa Roy Morris and brother to Jerry and Robin (Hofstetter) Morris, Jim and Kathy (Tuscano) Morris, Robert and Michele (Rullo) Morris, Joe Morris and Dina Yannich, Marie (Morris) and Roy Andresen, Vince and Beth (Ryan) Morris, Phil and Paula (Scarpello) Morris, Tom and Adriana (Kedra) Morris and the late Mike Morris. John is uncle and great-uncle to 36 nieces and nephews who revere their Uncle “Jack.” John’s family extends to New England, where he is cherished by the Roy family including his father-in-law Roger Roy, siblings-in-law Claudette Roy, Marc Roy (Donna), Ken Roy (Lauri), Michele Dubois (Andy), and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews who love and refer to him as “Uncle John.”
John grew up in Rockledge, Pennsylvania and attended grade school at Saint Cecilia School in Fox Chase. He attended Abington High School and excelled in track and football. While at Abington, he also attended Eastern Center for Arts and Technology where he demonstrated exceptional skills as a tool and die machinist. After graduating in 1977 John went on to take classes at Temple University, excelling in math. Parlaying his skills and knowledge of mechanical engineering, John worked as a tool and die machinist and later became the Chief Engineer for Filler Machine Company k/n/a PhilaPack, LLC for 41 + years during which he designed and built numerous filling machines from the ground up, applying today’s latest technology to create innovative solutions to update and improve the standards of the packaging machinery industry. To date, John’s machines remain in operation across the United States and beyond.
John was an exceptional musician and accomplished drummer. He drummed for a number of bands, both live and in the studio. But, by far his favorite band was Within that included his brothers, Rob, Joe, Vince, and sister Marie on lead vocals and Phil and Tom serving as roadies. With their permission, John and his brothers, including Jerry, Mike, and Jim turned his parent’s garage on Blake Avenue into a studio, complete with sound-proofing, a light show, and fan seating. Within played numerous gigs in the early 1980s locally and down the shore. Besides drumming John was also an excellent singer, harmonicist, and bass guitar player. His last music “gig” was his nephew's graduation party last month, where he played drums, never missing a beat.
John met the love of his life Lisa Roy at the Hollywood Tavern in Rockledge on October 14, 1994. Their home on Church Road became the scene of family fun and joy that included deck diving into the pool, slip and slide competitions, and numerous Eagles games and parties on Jack and Lisa’s deck. Although they cherished their home, John and Lisa enjoyed traveling and took numerous trips all across the United States and beyond as well as visiting with Lisa’s family in New England and chasing airshows up and down the East coast.
John loved his family and friends. He enjoyed trips to World’s End State Park, demolition derbies in New Jersey, Fourth of July Parades at the Rockledge Fire House, and trips to Sea Isle where the Morris family rented out two houses, side by side. At Christmas Eve celebrations, John and his brother Robert engaged in a nearly two-decade exchange of a single Entenmann's fruit cake, creatively regifted each season (encased in a snow globe, in a guitar, an illuminated concrete block), just to name a few, to the great anticipation of the whole family.
Relatives and friends were invited to his viewings on Monday, August 4, 2025 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Wetzel and Son Funeral Home, 419 Huntingdon Pike, Rockledge, PA 19046.
