Betty R. Wardell, of Ambler, formerly from Hatboro, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully with her beloved daughters by her side, on Friday, August 7, 2026, at Artman Lutheran Home. She was 101 years old. Born on November 13, 1924, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Betty was the daughter of the late Charles Breuninger and the late Mary A. Breuninger (nee Graham). She was the sister of the late Carl Breuninger. She was the beloved wife of the late Lester Wardell, with whom she shared a loving marriage that began on February 16, 1946.
Betty was a devoted mother to Nancy Burns (Jim); Janet Rompala (Stephen); and Joan Primodie (Jim). She was a proud and loving grandmother to Michael and Tim Burns, and Andrea, Eric, Phillip, and David Rieco. Her greatest joy continued through the generations as she became the cherished great-grandmother of Bella, Sophia, and Noelle.
Betty was raised in Philadelphia and graduated from Simon Gratz High School. She began her career in banking as a bookkeeper before dedicating herself full-time to raising her family.
A faithful member of Hatboro Baptist Church for many decades, Betty's faith was the cornerstone of her life. She sang in the church choir, prepared countless church dinners, and faithfully helped clean the church well into her nineties. Her quiet acts of service and steadfast commitment to her church family touched the lives of many.
Betty found happiness in life's simple blessings. She loved gardening and took great pride in caring for flowers, including those at Artman Lutheran Home. While living at Artman the past several years, she enjoyed participating in various activities, especially BINGO and cornhole. She treasured every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, especially caring for her grandchildren as they grew. She also enjoyed traveling with family and friends and created treasured memories by taking her daughters on annual trips when they were young.
Above all, Betty's life was centered on her faith, her family, and her beloved dogs. She will be remembered for her gentle spirit, tireless work ethic, generous heart, and the unconditional love she shared with everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Relatives and friends were invited to her visitation on Thursday, August 13, 2026 from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. and funeral service at 11:00 A.M. at Wetzel and Son Funeral Home, 501 Easton Road, Willow Grove, PA 19090. Her graveside service was private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Artman Benevolent Fund, 250 North Bethlehem Pike, Ambler, PA 19002.
