The following was written by Walter’s family:

Walter Ernest Mack of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania died Tuesday, August 19, 2025 at his home. He was 93 years old. Walter was born November 1, 1931 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, son of the late Ernst A. Mack and the late Barbara Mack (nee - Esslinger). He is the beloved husband of the late Ethel K. Mack; Father of Carole and her husband Michael Mulvihill and the late Barbara and her husband the late Robert Carr. Grandfather of Jennifer Stockdale, Tara Frederick (husband Jeff), Michael Mulvihill (wife Amanda), and Colin Mulvihill (wife Federica). Great grandfather of Kiersten Stockdale and Hazel Mae Mulvihill.

Walter grew up in the Lawndale section of Philadelphia, as an only child to German immigrants, Barbara and Ernst Mack. When he was young, he took classical piano lessons for 17 years. His instructors wanted him to pursue a career as a concert pianist, but he was too shy to play in public. However, he continued to play throughout his life.

He joined the marines in 1951. His high intelligence led him to be the radio operator for a mortar company serving in the Korean War. While in the marines, he met his wife Ethel on a double-date. They got married in 1953 and were happily married until her passing in 2008. He and Ethel were the proud parents of two daughters, Barbara and Carole.

When he got out of the service, he worked for The Evening Bulletin. He then began his life-long career of designing and fabricating sheet metal office furniture. He retired from Adelphia Steel at the age of 65.

Walter loved to work with his hands, building additions to his home, along with many other projects. He loved woodworking and built all of the furniture in his home.

Early on, he loved building train models. He then switched to elaborate, museum quality ship models.

He was an avid reader of military history and mystery adventure novels.

Walter was always working on a 3,000 piece puzzle that he enjoyed doing with his family.

One of his many hobbies also included collecting stamps.

Every morning he worked on adult coloring books using color pencils while he ate his breakfast, and did so again while his dinner was cooking in the oven.

He did all of these things even at the age of 93.

Walter had a wonderful sense of humor, and was a great story teller, remembering every detail.

He loved fast cars and traveling with his wife, both nationally and internationally.

He enjoyed watching old movies, and loved all types of music, but jazz and classical were his favorite.

He enjoyed a cold beer every day and told the doctors, “That’s what gave me this long life.”

Walter loved spending time with his family. Which included his grandchildren and great-grand children.

Relatives and friends were invited to his visitation on Saturday, August 30, 2025 from 9:30 to 10:30 A.M. and funeral service at 10:30 A.M. at Wetzel and Son Funeral Home, 419 Huntingdon Pike, Rockledge, PA 19046. Interment was private.
