Bridget Agnes Christopher of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania passed away Monday, September 1, 2025. She was 89 years old. Bridget was born October 13, 1935 in Bonniconlon, County Mayo, Ireland, one of five children of Martin Judge and Mary Judge (nee - Jordan). She is the beloved mother of Kevin Francis Christopher and husband Duane Herbel (deceased), James Joseph Christopher and, wife Stephanie Christopher, and Mary Frances Moleski and husband Steve Moleski. Grandmother to Stephen Moleski, Christopher Moleski - and wife Alyssa Moleski, Graysen Herbel-Christopher, Timothy Christopher, and Chance Christopher. Great-grandmother to Stephen James Moleski, Madison Moleski, and Charlotte Moleski.
In 1953, at age 18, Bridget came to the United States and lived with her cousins, the Caseys, on Devereaux Street in Northeast Philadelphia. She worked for several years in Center City at Lit Brothers department store and several banks and became roommates with her lifelong best friend Teresa Delacey (nee Carney). The two Mayo gals enjoyed Irish Dances at 69th street where Bridget met the love of her life, Francis Christopher. “Bridie” and Francis were married at Sacred Heart Church in Havertown on May 14, 1960 and had three children, Kevin, Jimmy and Mary, moving to Burholme and then Fox Chase in Northeast Philadelphia.
Bridget was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was active in her community and at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church, staying closely connected with Irish relatives and friends, raising money for causes such as the Father Peyton Family Rosary Fund and Bridgie Gillard Kidney Fund and supporting family activities like Cub Scouts and the Cardinal Dougherty Marching Band which all her children joined. She worked diligently as a bookkeeper and administrative assistant at Pooley Manufacturing in Burholme and Blue Ribbon Vending. Everyone who had the luck to work alongside Bridget enjoyed her generous smile, easy laugh and open and giving heart.
“Bridie and Chris” loved welcoming family and friends to their home for BBQ’s and holiday celebrations which might include their son Jim’s rock band performances. They opened their home to local elections every few years stationing voting machines in the recreation room with grateful neighbors filing in and out. Bridie counted election ballots as part of her proud civic duty.
When grandkids came along, they referred to her as “Honey” in imitation of the term of endearment her husband used that the little ones assumed was her name. It stuck and she became “Honey” or “Grandma Honey” to the family for the remainder of her days.
After 40 years of marriage Francis was taken up to heaven in November of 2000. Bridget stayed active with friends and family, enjoying cruises, Mah Jong and trips to the Jersey shore and staying engaged with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as they grew. Though Parkinson’s slowed her final years, she never lost her radiant smile and those glimmering Irish eyes. She passed peacefully on Labor Day morning at Paul’s Run Retirement Community in the Great Northeast and she will be forever cherished and dearly missed by all those lives she touched.
Relatives and friends were invited to attend her visitation Saturday morning, Sept. 13, 2025 9:30 AM - 10:20 AM at St Cecilia’s Church 535 Rhawn St. in the Foxchase section of Philadelphia PA followed by her Mass of Christian Burial at St. Cecilia’s Church and the interment of her ashes at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mrs. Christopher's memory to The Parkinson Research Foundation, PO Box 96318, Washington, DC 20090 would be appreciated.
