Dean Read Castor, of Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2025, at the age of 92. Dean was born on April 25, 1933, in the Holmesburg section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, son of the late LaRoy Northrop Castor and the late Miriam (McCartney) Castor. He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce (Wagner) Castor, with whom he shared 57 years of marriage; his children, Juliet Hennessy (husband Mark), Dean Castor Jr. (wife Tandi), Douglas Castor (wife Jennifer), and D. Randall Castor (wife Melinda); eleven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Dean graduated from Frankford High School in 1951 and from Lehigh University’s School of Business in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, in 1955. After college, he served as an officer in the Infantry and the Finance Corps of the United States Army until 1958. Following his service, he entered his father’s insurance business and later became President of Castor Insurance, Inc., located for many years in Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania. He loved his work in the insurance field and remained active in the business until 2025.
Throughout his lifetime, Dean was active in several organizations. He served for six years as a Republican Committeeman and was a member of the Parks and Recreation Board of Lower Moreland Township. For many years, he was an usher at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Huntingdon Valley and later became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Fairview Village, Pennsylvania. He also enjoyed tennis and golf and was a longtime member of the Roosevelt Racquet Club.
Dean will be remembered for his kindness, compassion, and genuine concern for others—qualities that allowed him to serve as both a mentor and a source of support. He dedicated years as a Little League baseball coach, loved collaborating on projects, and cherished time with his family and friends. Summers were often spent at the family’s vacation home in Ocean City, New Jersey.
Relatives and friends were invited to his visitation on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. and funeral service at 11:00 A.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1190 Valley Forge Road, Eagleville, PA 19409. His graveside service followed, with military honors rendered by the United States Army, at Whitemarsh Memorial Park, 1169 Limekiln Pike, Ambler, PA 19002.
