The following obituary was composed by Lise’s family:
Lise Trustorff of Warminster, Pennsylvania died Saturday, October 25, 2025 at Christ’s Home. She was 93 years old. She had previously lived in Huntingdon Valley for 46 years. Lise was born October 5, 1932 in Ofterdingen, Germany, daughter of the late Johan Egeler and the late Agnes Egeler (nee - Schmied). She is the beloved wife of the late Hans J. Trustorff; mother of Heinz Trustorff and Karin Hazzard (Michael); dear grandmother of Kristin Hazzard; Godmother of Ute Hausch Bebensee; dear Tante to 14 nieces + nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved sister Lotte Hausch and dear brother-in-law, Walter Hausch.
Our mother was born in the small village of Ofterdingen, located in south Germany. Her father was a tailor & her mother farmed 2 acres of rented land to provide food for the family. She bartered the excess to acquire other items for the family. Mom had one sister, Lotte, born 2 years before her & they were very close throughout their lives. When Mom finished 8th grade, she began working in a knitting mill, to which she rode her bicycle. When Mom was 15, she applied to come to America, but she had to wait 4 years until the U.S. government approved her application. On July 2nd, 1951, she boarded the ship U.S.S. Washington bound for New York City. Her aunt & uncle met her there & she lived with them in Northeast Philadelphia until she met our father, Hans, at the Bavarian Club (Bayern). Both of our parents went to work immediately after arriving in the United States. Mom drove to Lansdale to work in a knitting mill for 10 years. They attended night classes at Lincoln High School in order to learn English and assimilate into American society. In 1957, they were married by the Justice of the Peace. In 1957, Heinz was born followed by Karin in 1961. At that point Mom stayed home to raise us & be a homemaker.
In 1967, our parents hired their friend Carl Neu to build a split level home in Huntingdon Valley, PA. That home was Mom's pride & joy & she took care of the house & garden with great love & motivation. She maintained this one acre property for 14 years & before a tractor could be purchased, used a walking mower & raked the leaves from our many trees by hand. Dad worked in his machine shop & we went to school & when we all returned home, Mom had completed the yardwork, gardening & served a wonderful hot meal every night. She never thought of herself as a good baker, but all of the delicious cookies she made for us, up until age 91, tell a different story. Mom was a woman of many talents. She was an avid creator of crocheted afghans. We have always treasured them & Mom shared them with our friends too. We spent many nights in the family room watching TV together with Mom "growing" her afghan as we sat by the fire on a cold night. Indeed, when we came home from school on a snowy day, or if we were out sledding, Mom would have a big fire waiting for us.
Mom was very musical, we grew up hearing her singing in the house. She loved being in the HeimatEcho & Damenchor (German ladies choirs) & truly enjoyed her many friendships there. Mom & Dad enjoyed being members of the many German clubs in the area(Cannstatter, Vereinigung Erzgebirge (VE Club) & the United German Hungarian Club). They loved attending the events there, visiting with their German friends & contributing their time there.
Mom was blessed with a wonderful marriage of 51 years to our father. They traveled to Western Europe, making many trips to Germany to see family & friends, Africa, China, Eastern & Western Carribean. In 1995 we celebrated the birth of their only grandchild, Kristin. Oma was the best grandmother & took excellent care of Kristin for the first 2-1/2 years of her life. In 2007, we decided to honor our parents 50th wedding anniversary & 75th birthdays in one big celebration. It was a very special day, as our father was in his last year of life. Two of his sisters & 2 Goddaughters came from New Mexico & California to join us. It is a memory we will always treasure. Dad passed on July 21, 2008 & Mom would often say how much she missed him....it was a very hard loss for her because he was truly the love of her life. Mom lived 5 more years in her home & then made the big decision to move to Christ's Home/Shepherds Crossing. She loved living there & enjoyed planting her flowers. Even there, Mom always grew tomatoes & cucumbers & we would be the lucky recipients every summer of her harvest. She enjoyed many nice friendships while living there.
Mom was sharp until the very end. In January 2024, Mom suffered a small stroke. Four months later, she decided she would no longer drive & wanted to sell her car. In true German fashion, she was very practical & always wanted to do the right thing. Mom was raised as a Lutheran & her faith played a big role in her life. She understood that God's plan for us is always greater & wiser than any plan we might have for ourselves. She often said "Man denkt und Gott lenkt" (Man thinks/plans but God decides). We recently learned this is from Proverbs 16:9.
Mom took great care of her family. She was always very generous with us, & would remind us of things we may/may not have remembered. We believe God blessed us by giving us this very special Mom to raise & nurture us throughout our lives. We will miss her greatly but always treasure the many memories we have of her. We are saying "Auf Wiedersehen" because we know we will see her again.
Relatives and friends were invited to her visitation on Tuesday, November 11, 2025 from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. and funeral service at 11:00 A.M. at Wetzel and Son Funeral Home, 501 Easton Road, Willow Grove, PA 19090. Her graveside service followed at Union Cemetery, 209 Almshouse Road, Richboro, PA 18954. Religious services were conducted by Rev. Mark Rudolph from St. John’s Anglican Church, 1150 Bristol Road, Southampton, PA 18966.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Ted Hierl’s German American Radio Show, 36 Kay Road, Hamilton, NJ 08620 or Vereinigung Erzgebirge, 130 Davisville Road, Warminster, PA 18974 or Cannstatter Volksfest Verein, 9130 Academy Road, Philadelphia, PA 19114.
