Iva Dorothy Riepen (nee McConnell) of Philadelphia PA, died on December 3, 2025. She was 81 years old. She was born on November 23, 1944 in Philadelphia to Andrew G. and Iva R. McConnell (nee Wiltbank). Loving sister of the late Andrew F. McConnell. Devoted wife of the late Robert H Riepen. Beloved mother of Melissa Landue (Joseph) and Iva Marie Shields (Robert). Adoring grandmother of Jack D. Gill, Ashley Barcusky (Brandon), Ryan Gill, Reghan Gill, and Marcus Macarone.

Growing up in the Hunting Park section of the city, Iva attended Taylor Elementary School and Dobbins Technical High School, graduating in 1962.

She started her career as an Executive Secretary at INA. Later she moved into the role of Bookkeeper at Frankle Company Pharmaceutical Supply. Before long, she was Partner/Owner of the business renamed to Shields-Dina Co., which still bears her name.

Always the entrepreneur, Iva started her own commercial cleaning business, Ivy’s Cleaning Service that was in operation for 15 years.

Outside of her many business ventures, Iva was also a staple in the neighborhood as everyone’s favorite bartender at many establishments including the Sunrise Saloon, The Kolping House Club, and The Empty Glass Café in the Olney section of the city, where she raised her girls.

After 20 years in Olney, she relocated to Fox Chase where she lived for 30 years with her devoted husband Robert for the remainder of their lives.

Iva was an avid bowler, dart team captain, and the best jitterbugger around!

She loved getting together with “The Gang”, her childhood friends who remained close for 65 years.

Above all else, Iva’s most cherished role was that of Grandmother. She was the most attentive and loving Grandmom a child could ask for. A constant presence in all five of her grandchildren’s lives and their biggest cheerleader always.

Iva will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. Her legacy will live on always through her daughters and grandbabies.

Relatives and friends were invited to her visitation on Saturday, December 13, 2025 from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. and funeral service at 11:00 A.M. at Wetzel and Son Funeral Home, 419 Huntingdon Pike, Rockledge, PA 19046.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to American Cancer Society, PO Box 970, Fort Washington, PA 19034 cancer.org.
