Vivian Margarita Rodríguez López of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania died Monday, March 30, 2026. She was 72 years old. Vivian was born December 18, 1953 in Santurce, Puerto Rico, daughter of Miguel Angel Rodriguez Torres and Mercedes Rodriguez Torres (nee - Lopez Castro).
There are some sorrows very difficult to place. The death of our younger sister has caused us great pain. Vivian was born and raised in Río Piedras, in the Hyde Park neighborhood, where—together with our father Miguel, our mother Mercedes, and our brothers Miguel and Luis—we created and shared beautiful memories. Vivian studied at Puerto Rico Elementary School and University High School-UHS (Class of 1971). She earned her bachelor's degree at the University of the Sacred Heart and went on to pursue her master's degree in Special Education at Temple University. From then on, she lived in Philadelphia, where she lived a happy and fulfilling life. She was a dedicated special education teacher, deeply committed to her work. She loved and championed her students—as well as their families—with passion. She was a good, humble, and sincere person—talented, creative, generous, and compassionate—possessing a sense of justice that guided and accompanied her always.
"Titi Vivian” always looked out for her family, particularly her nieces and nephews in Puerto Rico: José, Isadora, Diego, Daniel, Francisco ("Panchi"), Mercedes, and Laura.
She enjoyed cinema, good conversation, reading, and music. She played the guitar and possessed a very sweet singing voice. Just a few days ago, we watched together (online)a concert by our national singer Lucecita Benitez, exchanging text messages as we reminisced about our days of youth.
Nina and I traveled to Philadelphia to embrace our dear Ximena, as well as her family Estivaliz and Brandon Detwiller; Guillermo and Annmarie Gamboa, her dear grandchildren who gave her much joy-Avianna, Selena and Guillermito, and friends who loved Vivian so dearly and brought her such happiness. We are deeply grateful for your affection and for your loving, comforting presence during this time.
Once we have her ashes back in Puerto Rico, we will have the opportunity to gather—just as we are doing here in Philadelphia—to continue honoring her memory and giving thanks for her life. Peace!

Paz.
