Catherine “Sis” Casey (née Gossner), on June 1, 2026, peacefully in her sleep. Cherished wife of 47 years to James Casey Sr. Loving mother of Jennifer Long (Jimmy), James, and Daniel (Colleen). Beloved Grandmom of Lea, James, Mia, Charlotte, Reagan, Juliana, Danny, and one great-grandchild. The most amazing “Sis” to Michael, Joseph, Mark, and Rose, as well as Aunt Sissy to many nieces and nephews. Cathy is preceded in death by her parents, the late Joseph M. Gossner, Rosemarie Hillman, and Jack N. Hillman.
It is with heavy hearts and plenty of laughter-filled memories that we announce the passing of Cathy, who left this world the same way she lived it—surrounded by love. Cathy retired on September 1, 2023, from Temple University Hospital, Jeanes Campus, after 39 years of dedicated service. She was also a Trustee for the Michael J. Crescenz VFW Post 2819 Auxiliary, where she volunteered for her beloved veterans.
Cathy was a woman of many talents. She worked harder than most people thought possible, loved her family more than words can express, and somehow managed to be the funniest person in every room without even trying. Whether she was delivering a perfectly timed one-liner, sharing an unforgettable story (or wildly inappropriate joke), or teasing the people she loved most, she kept everyone laughing.
Cathy’s family was the center of her universe. She was the most devoted wife, mother, grandmom, sister, aunt, and friend. Her grandchildren were her greatest joy and favorite audience. She adored every minute spent with them, whether she was spoiling them with treats, cheering them on, or teaching them life lessons disguised as funny stories.
She never met a challenge she wouldn’t tackle head-on. She believed in hard work, speaking her mind, and making sure nobody left her house hungry. Her kitchen was always open for recipe experimentation, her advice was always available—whether you asked for it or not—and, most importantly, her love was endless.
Those who knew her will remember her quick wit, generous heart, and remarkable ability to make ordinary moments unforgettable. She leaves behind a family who will miss her dearly, a collection of stories that will grow funnier every year, and grandchildren who will forever know what it feels like to have been adored by the best grandmom ever.
While we mourn her absence, we take comfort in imagining her somewhere above, reunited with all those who went before her whom she missed dearly, delivering her famously timed one-liners and having all the angels laughing like they’ve never laughed before.
Her legacy lives on in the love she shared, the laughter she created, and the family she cherished above all else. Rest easy, our comical angel… we love you, we miss you, and we promise to keep laughing—because we know that is exactly what you would want.
Relatives and friends were invited to her viewing on Tuesday, June 9, 2026 from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. and Funeral Mass at 10:00 A.M. at St. Hilary of Poitiers Church, 820 Susquehanna Road, Rydal, PA 19046. Her graveside service followed at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 3301 West Cheltenham Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19150.
