The following obituary was composed by Debbie’s family:
Deborah Ann (Wilson) Drissel, 67, of Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, peacefully passed on June 6th, 2026, but not before yelling for someone to get her a Diet Pepsi, and surrounded by her loving family. Born on September 25th, 1958, in Philadelphia, PA, to Harry and Dorthy (Huenke) Wilson. Debbie was the youngest of six siblings, and grew up in Roxborough with a family whom she loves dearly.
Growing up, Debbie loved numbers and later attended Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science (now Philadelphia University), receiving a Bachelor's degree in accounting. She was incredibly proud of reaching this goal and also loved the designation of her school as a place for budding artists. Despite never pursuing this course of study, she proudly mentioned it often, especially as the arts became a big part of her family's life later on.
Debbie built a career as an Accountant, working for and with many people over the course of her long career, devoted to helping people make sense of complicated situations and helping others understand and feel safe with their finances. Incredibly proud of her work and genuinely caring for her clients, her work built lifelong relationships that went above and beyond what was professionally expected. Her career also brought her the love of her life, having met her beloved husband, Michael, as he took an internship at her office. Michael knew immediately that she was the one, proposing just 3 months after they started dating, leading to over 40 years of marriage.
Debbie was a devout ELCA Lutheran and attended Messiah Lutheran Church in Philadelphia for much of her life and was very involved in its ministries up until its closing. She was fortunate enough to marry her husband there and baptized her daughter Tara before its closing. After its closure and her relocation to Willow Grove, Debbie found a congregation and created a new home at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Horsham, PA, in 1994, where she baptized her son Adam and continued to worship and teach her children for the rest of her days.
Those who knew her well could fondly recall her love of music and musicals, particularly West Side Story, even convincing her husband to perform ‘One Hand, One Heart’ at their wedding, though neither of them would ever offer to sing by themselves in public again. Her love of Mickey Mouse would make everyone smile as she showed off the various clothing and purses so lovingly and proudly gifted to her, with such infectious joy. Her self-proclaimed role models, ‘ Ziggy’ (an old comic) and ‘Eeyore’ (Winnie the Pooh), always decorated her offices, making us laugh, as her mindset was never quite as dreary as these beloved characters that made her smile. Her dogs were a huge part of her life; she considered them part of her family, and she was very convincing when suggesting that just maybe we needed another dog to add to the family, often ending up with three or more at a time.
Debbie loved to spend her free time putting together puzzles, cooking amazing meals, creating crafts with her children, talking late into the night with her son, Adam, and talking, cooking, decorating, and watching movies with her husband. Whenever possible, she loved getting the chance to hear her daughter, Tara, sing and showcase their artwork, which she very proudly reminded everyone she had a part in influencing with all of the crafting and singing they did together.
Above all, Deborah will be remembered for her warmth, kind heart, thoughtfulness, and her fierce love for her husband, Michael, children, Tara, and Adam, along with all she considered family. Debbie had a talent for making people feel safe, welcomed, loved, and accepted for who they were; her love had no bounds. She could make you laugh or smile, no matter the situation, and was always there for a comforting hug or supportive presence when the world was heavy, always looking to solve all the problems, even some that didn't even exist yet. She kept those she loved so very close to her heart. She is the heart of our family and instilled the values of kindness, generosity, resilience, and unconditional love in her children.
Deborah was preceded to heaven by her son, Michael George, parents, Harry and Dorothy, brothers Harry, Michael, and Stephen Wilson, and sister Susan DeGarmo.
Leaving behind to always cherish her memory, her beloved husband, Michael Joseph Drissel, her children, Tara Drissel and Adam Drissel, her future daughter-in-law Erica Varsho, her brother James (Margaret) Wilson, her mother-in-law Maryellen (Smith) Dryslewski, and sisters and brothers-in-law, and many nieces, nephews, as well as her chosen family.
The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to all who have reached out to bring comfort and care to Deborah and her family. We appreciate your love and care.
Relatives and friends were invited to her visitation on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. and memorial service at 11:00 A.M. at Wetzel and Son Funeral Home, 501 Easton Road, Willow Grove, PA 19090. Interment will be private. Religious services were conducted by Rev. Ellen Meissgeier.
