Robert Bruce Hartman of Dover, Delaware passed away Saturday, June 6, 2026 at Paul’s Run. He was 83 years old. Robert was born November 20, 1942 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, son of Bruce Hartman and Norma Hartman. He is the beloved husband to Johanna (nee Moser),. Father to Carolyn Lee Rakus (Hartman), Robert Bruce Hartman JR (wife Cortny). Grandfather to Shauna Margarette Rakus, Samantha Rose Rakus, and Sawyer Robert Hartman.
He attended Olney High School and served in the United States Naval Air Reserves.
Bob was born and raised in Olney section of Philadelphia, married Johanna then moved to Burholme. Prior to retiring they moved to Dover, Delaware where he lived until approximately 3 months ago.
Bob worked at Domus Enterprises for over 30 years until retirement. He worked as a Carpenter (Union) and Job Forman for Domus during his career there.
Bob was a Carpenter by trade; however, he was a Jack of All Trades. Bob and Johanna built a cabin in the Poconos where they spent as many weekends as possible through the years. In their later years, they would Snowbird in Florida, driving their Motor Home to their property in Haines City after the new year and driving home just before the Easter holiday. The Snow birding continued for a couple of years after Johanna’s passing with assistance from Carolyn and Rob.
In February 2025, Bob was diagnosed with a glioblastoma brain tumor. He chose to fight. At the end of March 2025, he had brain surgery that remove as much of the tumor as possible. He then received 30 days of Chemo and Radiation treatments at Fox Chase Cancer Center while living with Carolyn. In the beginning of July 2025, Bob moved back to his home in Delaware. After a couple weeks of OT & PT he picked up where he left off in January, going back to have lunch with his friends at Modern Maturity Senior Center, and tinkering around his garage, along with his afternoon naps.
Shortly after the 2026 New Year, signs of the tumor started to appear. By the end of February, he started losing mobility in his entire left side. His March 2026, MRI confirmed that the tumor had started to grow back along with another tumor near the initial one. Bob returned to living with Carolyn while looking for Senior living in the Huntingdon Valley, PA area. Bob had a critical fall the day he was to move into the assisted living apartment he chose. He was admitted into Temple Hospital Main Campus; he was then moved into a rehab facility where he eventually received Hospice the first week in June. The tumors came back with a vengeance and overtook Bob. In his final days he rested with no pain prior to his passing.
He will very much be missed by his family and friends.
Relatives and friends were invited to his visitation on Tuesday, June 16, 2026 from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M. and memorial service at 7:00 P.M. at Wetzel and Son Funeral Home, 419 Huntingdon Pike, Rockledge, PA 19046.
