Kathy Kay Tokar, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 24, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was 74 years old. Born on September 2, 1951, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Kathy was the daughter of the late John Kennedy and Helen Kennedy (nee Rau).
Kathy was the beloved wife of the late Eugene Tokar. She was a devoted and loving mother to Jaclyn Tokar and Amy Farrell and her husband, Stephen. Nothing brought Kathy greater joy than her family, especially her cherished grandchildren: Timothy, Devin, Leah, Ava, Mia, and Nolan.
She is also survived by her loving sister, Carol Turzi and her husband, Urban; her nieces, Kathy and Phyllis; and many extended family members and dear friends. In addition to her husband and parents, Kathy was preceded in death by her brother, John Kennedy, and her sister, Doris Henderson.
Kathy grew up in the Olney section of Philadelphia on East Albanus Street and attended Olney High School. She met the love of her life, Eugene, at the Velvet Lounge, and the two were married on June 9, 1979. Throughout her working years, Kathy was employed at Sears on Roosevelt Boulevard and later at Frankford Hospital. Together with Eugene, she raised their daughters in the Parkwood section of Northeast Philadelphia, where she created a warm and welcoming home filled with love, laughter, and lasting memories.
In her younger years, Kathy was an avid bowler and proudly participated in a bowling league for many years. Later in life, she found joy in quieter hobbies, especially reading and creating beautiful diamond paintings.
Kathy will be remembered for her caring heart, wonderful sense of humor, and unwavering positivity. She always had something kind to say and was the type of person who would do anything for her family and friends. Her strength was evident throughout her life, especially in the loving care she gave to her husband, her children, and her grandchildren. She touched the lives of everyone she met with her warmth, compassion, and generosity.
Services will be private at the family request.
