The following was composed by Herbert’s family:

Herbert K. Schulze Sr., 94, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania passed away Friday, September 4,2026 comfortably at Paul’s Run Retirement Community. Herbert was born April 12,1932 in Philadelphia, son of the late Max Herbert Schulze and the late Hertha L. Schulze (nee - Wieland).

He is the beloved husband of the late Lillian D. Schulze; with whom he shared 67 wonderful years of marriage. Together they built a loving home and raised two children, Diane Wilush (Jeff) and Herbert K. Schulze Jr. (Cheryl). He was the proud grandfather of Jeffrey Wilush Jr. (Katie), Jenna Olsen (Ben), Herbert K. Schulze III, and Max Schulze, all of whom he adored deeply. He is also survived by his twin sister Ann Louise Pieper (the late Bill).

A lifelong Philadelphian, Herbert grew up in the Juniata Park section of Philadelphia and attended Jules E. Mastbaum Vocational Technical School. At the age of 18, Herbert began his career as a carpenter, joining the Carpenters Union Local 8. He remained a member in good standing for more than 75 years, taking great pride in his trade and the many years he devoted to his work.

In 1953, Herbert was drafted into the United States Army, where he served honorably until his discharge. His military service was an important part of his life and reflected the dedication and sense of duty that he carried throughout the years.

In his earlier years, Herbert was active with the Fox Chase Soccer Club, where he coached and served on the board as Sergeant at Arms. He also enjoyed attending events at the local German American clubs and remained connected to the traditions and community that meant so much to him.

Herbert found great enjoyment in the simple pleasures of life. He loved his cars, faithfully followed Philadelphia sports teams, and cherished spending time outdoors around his home.

Services were private at the family request.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Charity of the donor’s choice.
