Gerald E. “Jerry” Mayall of Lower Gwynedd, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at Spring House Estates. He was 89 years old. Jerry was born on October 13, 1936, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Norman Mayall and the late Eva (Angner) Mayall.
He was the beloved husband of Julia D. (nee Mascino) Mayall, with whom he shared 66 years of marriage, celebrating their anniversary this past August. Jerry was the devoted father of Jerry Mayall and Judy Wiskoski and her husband, John. He was the cherished grandfather of Jeffry Wiskoski and Julia Wiskoski. He was preceded in death by his brother, Norman W. Mayall.
Raised in the Kensington section of Philadelphia, Jerry graduated from Northeast High School at 8th and Lehigh in 1954. He went on to attend the University of Pennsylvania, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry in 1958. While at Penn, Jerry excelled as a soccer player and was honored as an All-American.
Jerry’s lifelong dedication to education began in the classroom. He taught Chemistry and Physics and coached soccer for many years. It was while teaching at Northeast High School on Cottman Avenue that Jerry met Julia. They married in 1960 at Our Lady of Consolation in Tacony, beginning a partnership that would span more than six decades.
Jerry’s passion for education and athletics continued throughout his career. He served as Director of the Aerospace Magnet School and also coached soccer for five years at Northeast High School, taking the team to city champs twice and at the University of Pennsylvania for eight years, leading the team to three Ivy League Championships. Jerry was on the First Northeast High School Wall of Fame.
Outside of his professional life, Jerry embraced every opportunity to learn, explore, and enjoy the world around him. He loved camping, fishing, hiking, photography, music, concerts, plays, and traveling abroad. A lifelong learner and avid student of history, Jerry was always curious and interested in discovering something new. He especially treasured time spent with his grandchildren, whose lives brought him tremendous joy.
Faith was also an important part of Jerry’s life. He was a devoted member of St. Aiden’s and later St. Anne’s, where he faithfully served as a Chalice Bearer and lector.
Jerry will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his passion for teaching and soccer, his enduring curiosity, his love of history and the arts, and the many lives he touched as an educator, coach, husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation on Saturday, September 12, 2026 from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. and funeral service at 11:00 A.M. at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church, 2119 Old Welsh Road, Abington, PA 19001.
Religious services will be conducted by Fr. Winston Smith from St. Anne’s Episcopal Church.
